Try frozen cyclopeeze, they will serve yr purpose well.. For dried cyclopeeze, you can try mix with blend food before frozen. It works well for me.. Cheers...

Try Google Wet Skimming or Dry Skimming topic.. Shld able to get more ideas.. I prefer more bubble (dry skim) for your case the skimming is more effective cause pump to skimmer is near and less headloss. In general, Water level shld be able stabilize after running set.. Cheers.

You can control your air take pressure by adjust the valve... Pls refer the circle in yellow.. The yellow line direction in the circle indicate off air intake position.Probably off your air intake to observed how the skimmer works first.. after that on the valve slowly, you shld see bubble building up in the skimmer body..
