I still cannot figure out how an overrated chiller can save on cost of electricity. My view is that, though I agree that bigger capacity chiller brings down temperature at faster rate, but consuming higher power in the shorter period of time it is running, the rise in temperature (when chiller is off) is identical to whatever size of chiller used as the chiller is off and is only dependent on the very same content of the tank and the ambient temperature. For example, the same tank will take the same amount of time to raise from 25 degrees to 27 degrees irregardless of chiller as it will be off during this period of time. Hence the chiller stop time should be same. In fact, if you extrapolate and plot a chart of the chiller's start/stop frequency over a day, you will find that the chiller actually runs more frequently, ie, shorter run time to chill from 27 to 25 degrees, same period of chiller off time for temperature to rise from 25 to 27 degrees, then chiller start again. These more frequent start/stop cycle will expedite chiller worn-out. I can agree it is good to just 1 size over-rate the chiller, but overly oversized will have reverse effect. I am still trying to figure out the justification of 'overrate chiller save cost in long run'. Kindly advise if my understanding above is not correct. BTW, I used a 0.5HP for my 5 footer+sump and 1/6HP for 3 footer.

Anyone has the above to give away, kindly PM me. Thanks and cheers.

That piece of crystal red shrimp (CRS) mentioned is probably not the highest you will come across for good grades. Cannot be compared as suggested in this thread as CRS as graded. Grades can range from very low C grade (S$2.40 @ at current lfs market prices) to very high grades of Mosura which is very sought after and rare. There are at least 7 grades just for such CRS. Further, very low probablilty and success raising of such high-grade offsprings even from high-graded CRS parents will dictate the market value of such grades of shrimps. Marine shrimps are never graded and same specis of shrimps almost always looks alike. These CRS shrimps are the current craze of Japan. Everyone will know anything in Japan when it is the craze, $ value knows no bound. CRS has a life span of around 1.5 years with tight water parameters control and breeding (genes) management. However, if you can breed them successfully, the payback from investment is there. Hope info helps offer some lights to discussion.

Thanks pal. Though I no longer have a marine tank (at least for now) due to work, I still very fancinated by SH. Very graceful creatures. Will be freeloading around here enjoying other hobbyists' tanks. Sure, look forward to seeing your energised return to SH. Cheers.

Thanks to all PM. I replied all already. Pls note that I will bring my PH7.0 calibration fluid to test it before confirm buying. Reason why I insist to test before confirm buying is that I recently bought a test pen from a forumer who'd claimed it is working. I trusted him and bought it based on his words without testing. Upon testing at home, found that the test pen is way out of reading and impossible to be re-calibrated. This forumer then claimed 'item sold' are on 'buyer beware' basis. . I am not blaming anyone since I did not test it before buying. However, anyone offering test pen to me, please confirmed the test pen you are selling is in good working condition to at least avoid both of us wasting time/efforts, and me hard-earned money. Anyone knows where I can buy new test pen at reasonable prices (no need branded ones, below $40 preferably if any), kindly let me know via PM. Thanks in advance.
