  1. Hi all, just to share with everyone my experience in repairing my BlackBerry 8707's cracked LCD screen. Decided to mail order a replacement screen on eBay. Total cost is US$59.46 (about S$90). Looking at the new LCD, I think it is a compatible screen (meant for 8700 series) as it doesn’t look the same as the RIM one. Anyway, doesn't matter as it works great. Brightness is also the same. Initially takes about 30 minutes to dismantle the BB and install the screen. But I think can shorten to 15 minutes once you know how to overcome the tricky parts. What takes the most time is opening rear casing as I couldn't figure out how to open it without breaking the clips. Now it is a breeze. The other difficult part is removing the LCD screen and putting it back. Also quite tricky to do as you don't want to break the connector. If you ever need to replace your BB's screen, do a search on eBay for "blackberry 8700 lcd" and it will throw up many matches. Prices varies. DIY instructions from here http://www.somelifeblog.com/2007/03/blackb...broken-lcd.html Hope the above helps someone in the future. Cheers.
  2. Posting this for a friend. My friend won a BlackBerry Curve 8300 in a lucky draw by SingTel. He is selling this new set because he already has one. The box is brand new. The original seal is still intact. The box has not been opened yet. See attached photos below. Please note that it does not come with any subscription plan or SIMM card. I also heard that even though it is brand new, SingTel does not provide warranty for lucky draw prizes. Information about BlackBerry Curve 8300 here ... http://www.blackberry.com/ap/products/blac...berry8300.shtml According to www.ebay.com.sg and auctions.yahoo.com.sg, the current market price is S$990. My friend just wants a quick deal and is selling this set on an as-is basis. Asking price is S$800. Strictly cash terms only. I believe the price is negotiable because he just wants to sell this fast. Upon payment, you can break the seal and open the box to inspect the contents to ensure that it is not damaged goods. If you are interested, please contact him directly via email at wilphill@gmail.com to negotiate and to arrange for a place to meet and transact. Please do not post here. Please do not PM me. Please deal directly with him. Thanks.
  3. I assume you're asking about the StarMEX? Yes, you can set the differential. The controller is the same as the instructions I passed to you previously. I think the noise for the StarMEX compressor is quieter when compared to my previous aquarium chiller. There is also less heat generated, and for a much shorter time too.
  4. Hi chercm, Thank you for the assurance. I confirm that Frag (4) S$30 is reserved for you. Not sure whether have you seen my PMs to you. Kindly let me know when you would be able to make the collection. If you prefer, I can meet you at ML also. Upzzz for ... Frag (3) reduced to S$15 is available. Collection is at West Coast or near Marine Life. If you're interested, please PM me your your name & contact number, and preferred collection date/time. Thanks for viewing. Cheers.
  5. Upzzz for you bro. And check out this thread ... wtb chiller 1/2 or 1/3 hp. Cheers.
  6. Check out this thread ... 7 month old 1/4 Artica Chiller for sale.
  7. Hey, no problem bro. I already appreciate your suggestion. So no need to apologise. Thank you. Unfortunately, BBs are not as common as other mobile phones. I doubt if those 2nd hand phone shops will carry the spares or know how to repair it. But I may just ask if I happen to pass by one. Thanks again. Cheers.
  8. Thanks all for your suggestions. Called Ron. His quote is an arm and a leg minus $10. I was hoping for $200 or less. Wasn't expecting to pay double. Still considering. Thanks anyway.
  9. Yah lor... I wonder if it'll taste like hae-bee-hiam ...
  10. Hi all, My BlackBerry 8707 dropped and cracked the LCD. I've checked with my telco provider and they quoted me an arm and a leg for the repair -- because RIM doesn't do repair locally and the unit needs to be air freight back to Canada for repairs. Does anyone know where can I get it the LCD replaced locally at a reasonable cost? Thanks for your help.
  11. Good deal. Reasonable price for this 7-month old chiller. Upzz for you bro. PS: I'm sorry to hear about your "pilot". I fully understand your frustration. I'm dealing with one potential "pilot" myself. Sigh ...
  12. Thanks for sharing the photos. Very informative. By the way, I'm at the West side too. Near ML (Hong Leong Gardens). Let me know if you're coming around this area. I'll collect it from you. Thanks again.
  13. Updates: Frags (1) & (2) sold and collected. Frag (3) S$20 is available. Frag (4) S$30 is temporarily reserved by chercm. Pending for confirmation. Collection is at West Coast or near Marine Life. If you're interested in the frags, please PM me your choice of frags, your name & contact number, and preferred collection date/time. Thanks for viewing. Cheers.
  14. Corals sold and collected. Thread closed. Thanks for viewing.
  15. White hair? At least not green hair algae. Hey, I fully agreed with you 1000% on the blackviper-looking coil in my sump. It is taking up so much of my precious sump space Now I have so little space to dump my "temporary" corals/rocks, etc. It also makes changing water so much more difficult. I like to siphon out the detritus from the sump bottom. But now this black snake is blocking the way. But no choice, my old chiller (after about 2+years) was getting to be more and more inefficient. Takes more than an hour to drop 1 deg C and only rest less than an hour before it kicks in again. Come to think of it, I think the insulation in the internal heat exchanger is no good. So even after compressor stops, the heat from the compressor gets transferred to the heat exchanger and indirectly heats up the water that is still flowing through it. This is just my guess. Otherwise, the temperature water shouldn't rise so fast. So I decided to just invest in the StarMEX after seeing the demo of a similar dip-in coil during Aquarama. As for cost recovery, I'm hoping to break even in about 3 years. Kinda long but I'm also hoping that these commercial-grade compressors will give me many years of trouble-free operation. I've had two aquarium chillers in the past and both started giving problems after a couple of years. OK, let us not compare anymore. Our situations are different. We're here to share and to learn from each other's experiences. Chat later. Gotta get back to work liao.
