Kindly help me to ID this anemone. When I have gotten it, the staff told me that it is a rose BTA. But it does not look like one. I have having a green BTA and these two anemone looks quite different. Also, any idea on its scientific name, its nature, feeding habits, lighting, water circulation requirement, etc.

When I first started, I went to Marine Life and the boss (Henry) is very helpful and knowledgeable. Good luck

Any Naso ###### around? -
I have bought a star poly and it did not open for the past 1 week. Can I know what can be the possible reasons? My nitrate is kind of high and the rest of the parameters are ok. I do not have butterfish or angel or fishes that will attack star poly. As a guide, my RBTA and GBTA are surviving fine and happy. I thought that star poly should be easily to keep then BTA?

my RBTA shrink.... and it hide under rocks

Just to share my experience. ONce the anemone start to "rot", it should be dead. U may be surprised that even though it is dead, it will still cling onto the rock. Good luck. -
Removing Coral Chips to Reduce Nitrate
vincegoh replied to Plenum's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
If u put LR in your canister, u might as well leave the LR in the main tank for it to continue to be LIVE. ONce u placed it in the canister, the LR will die and its function will simply be the same as coral chips or ceramic rings - surface for anerobic bacteria to live. Which LFS told u that?!!? -
Will threadfin butterfish or flame angel attack anemone?

vincegoh replied to vincegoh's topic in General Reefkeeping_
In that case, no. There is no cyno in my tank. Any other expert to comments? -

I did add some DT PhytoPlankton 2 days ago. But do Phyto glows??? -
Yesterday, I noticed that my tank water kind of glow (greenish) under actinic lights. Though the greenish glow is not as strong as my green BTA, it is still quite visible. Under MH, my water is very clear. Any idea why is this so?

Can I know whether crab will eat or damage both elephant ear and anemone? Other than that, wat are the natural enemy of elephant ear and anemone? I am asking on behalf of a friend who just bought an elephant ear, placed it in his tank and within an hour, he found that one end of his elephant ear is being "pulled" into a hole in the LR. He managed to gently loosen it from the LR but there is a big tear. Then he saw a 0.5 inch crab running out of the hole.

Places like Re*&%@, I would not patronise 'cause the fishes there are "dropping" like flies. It is very sad when u visit that place. I would not want to encourage this sort of irresponsible business... Just my opinions. BTW, any LFS selling healthy Naso ###### Tang? -
That is brittle worm that u r refering.

Do we need permit from HDB to install Fish Tank ?
vincegoh replied to minsmarine's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Ya, the calculation have not take the sump into consideration yet. But usually point load govern, not patch load 'cause e.g. if the floor area where u place ur tank is confined with an area of 3m x 3m = 9m2 (within beams or structural walls like bomb shelter), that means total load for the area must not exceed 1.5 x 9 = 13.5kN (where the 5' tank weight is 7kN + sump). So usually quite safe. -

vincegoh replied to minsmarine's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Well, I suppose it depends on the type of stand u r using. For example, if you are having a 5' x 2' x 2.5' tank on a 4 legged stand. Convert to metric unit will be 1.524m x 0.6096m x 0.762m. Thus, volume = 0.708m3 AS we know the density of water is 1000kg/m3, therefore the total weight of the tank is 708kg. Weight per leg (of the stand) = 708/4kg = 177kg = 1.7kN HDB regulation is 1.4kN, hence not good! Thus, to overcome this, use a cabinet that is seating on continuous "stand". Example for my case, it is the footprint of the tank. This will satisfy the above criteria. As for the patch loading, if the loaded area is not near to other heavy stuff, the combined floor area (within the beams or walls) should be able to satisfy the 1.5kN/m2. -
Sounds like Mantis Shrimp.

Well, HDB design loading is 1.5kN/m2 for uniform distributed load (a patch loading) and 1.4kN for concentrated load (point loading). Do your own maths -
The surface stuff will die off especially those pests but those that are further in should be able to survive. But it is alright since those can be cultivate once the rock can be placed in my main tank as my tank is quite established. Thinking of adding dead rock next time, cheaper and pest-free.

What is ur tank size? Mine is already there for the past year and if apply, all of some funny reasons, the answer is negative, then wat? I have to remove the whole, is it? Too bad last year my designer never apply for me... nevermind lah. Anyway, the HDB officer come to my house before, and saw the tank. He did not said anything, except that he commented that the fish tank is nice... -

Actually the position of the tank will be more of a concern, e.g. don't put a heavy tank at the balcony. The balcony might give way... -

Sounds like a great way. Is it your personally experience? BTW, do you cure ur LR when u buy it from LFS?
