  1. u may want to suck the top layer of sand out during routine water change, wash it then place back into the tank. This will help u to get rid of all the "shits" and algae.
  2. I have gotten a barlett anthias about 2 month ago and it was fine in the first few days eating like a pig. Then a lump started to glow on its side near the tail area. The lump gets bigger over few days and eventually turn white color (with the fish scale so stretched). The lump seems to be growing from within the fish body. It does not look like external parasite. The next thing I know is that the lump is dissolved (or being eaten by the shrimps while the barlett is still alive) and left a big hole on the side of the poor barlett! The poor fish manage to survive for another day, afterwhich it died Any idea what happen? The rest of my fishes are fine and healthy.
  3. How much you bought your barlett? I gotten mine about 2 month ago and it was fine the first week eating like a pig. Then a lump started to glow on its side near the tail area. The lump gets bigger and turn into white color. The next thing I know is that the lump is dissolved (or being eaten by the shrimp) and left a big hole on the side of the poor barlett! 4. Maybe due to your freshly mix slat water.
  5. For my case, all my Astrae snails (about 7 snail in 2 separate buy) died within a week. Hence I gave up buying them. However, it seems that before the Astrae snails died, they lay their eggs (do they reproduce this way?) and I am having small Astrae snails crawling around and slowly they are getting bigger everyday...
  6. Well, I am having a sump system with a cannister for chemical filtration.
  7. It might be hiding somehwere below the LR. It will surface eventually, unless kanna attack and die there.
  8. How do the kalk residue mixture looks like? Usually, I only see white particles settle down at the bottom of the mix. Do u mean that white particle? If so, won't it "pollute" the tank water? Thanks again.
  9. Yesterday, I notice that there are aiptasia living in the small "caves" of my LR. I understand that Kalkwasser are used to kill them but I do not understand how to inject? Do we require a needle? I have a syringe but with no needle. Can we just use the syringe and "spray" the kalkwasser near the aiptasia? Furthermore, the aiptasia will retract when anything go near it, right? So how to inject?
  10. Actually, I think most butterfly fish will do the trick. My old vagabond butterfly used to feast on it and help me to get rid of it all.
  11. I think my clown is also having the same problem... Maybe it is a sign of age...

    Magnet

But if u use that ur glass cleaner will be cannot be used for cleaning the glass anymore since the metal fragments will sticking strongly onto the magnet and very hard for you to remove it. Still better to get a sacrificial magnet.
  13. The medicine is from AquaPharm. However, my anemone did show stress and my tube anemone retracted into its tube and stay there now. Have to do a massive water change soon.

    Magnet

Anyone have any idea where to get relatively powerful magnet? I need it to screen through my sandbed cause I discover that there seems be quite a lot of tiny metal fragments lying around. I am trying to get old useless speaker which I can dismantle and take the magnet but in vain. Anyone have one to spare?
  16. Nope, it is specially for ich and it stated reef safe. I forgot the brand but it is from U.S.
  17. I did bought a bottle of non-copper based medicine for white spots at ML recommended by Henry. Seems ok.
  18. Think u got the wrong idea of them being peaceful coz stated by "literatures" and they r easy to keep. Yellow tang is semi-aggressive and it is aggressive towards its own species, or Tangs in general, and it is best to keep only one per tank. It needs a varied diet high in beta-carotene and vitamin C, and low in protein matter. To maintain its bright coloration, however, it must keep to a strict herbivore diet to prevent fading (tats not easy, lots of committment ). Blue tang is peaceful as it is tolerant of other tangs, but can occasionally be aggressive towards other Blue Tangs. It is more susceptible to lateral line disease, fin erosion, ich and other skin parasites than many other fish. Naso tang is aggressive towards other tangs, but peaceful with other fish in the tank community. Lastly, u added an aggressive fish (Sohal). The Sohal Tang is hardy, but susceptible to a disease known as Lateral Line erosion, or Hole in the Head. A vegetarian diet high in vitamins, especially beta-carotene can aid in the prevention of development of the disease. Stray voltages are also thought to contribute to this disease and the grounding probe may be beneficial. Sohal Tangs are very aggressive. They should not be kept with other Tangs or Wrasse species. They tend to be well-behaved with old tank mates, but try to kill any new additions. They are only suited for large aquariums with other aggressive fish. They do fairly well in very large reef systems with no other Tangs, and plenty of swimming room
  19. Yeh, my intention is to have more LR on the left of the tank. Rearranging the said area will also re-distribute the territory. I do my homework before I bought the naso. Both my yellow and blue tang are much smaller than the new naso that I have bought. So I think this should help. I regret buying the sohal from the shop mentioned as I concluded that they did not quarantine or "dip" the fishes as the sohal die of icks and now my blue tang also have a bit already. It has been free of ick for the past 4 months until I introduce that sohal.
  20. Mmm... interesting... u r trying to say that Sohal or naso should not be kept in home aquarium? I understand that my naso ###### is still consider young at this moment but I have checked around and there is nothing that say that the tangs mentioned should not be kept. One source say that the minimum tank Size: 125 gallons. My tank is 180 gallons, I thought that should be sufficient?
  21. $ is always an issue... I still getting LR but slowly since I am having fishes and do not want a surge in nitrate. Treating LR as fishes too. Anyway, I am worry that new LR will bring me new mantis shrimps! Caught 3 mantis shrimps already. Actually, normal LR is good enough as coraline aglae is growing on my cheap cheap LR already. Can save some money. Know anywhere with cure LR and cheap too.
  22. maybe the one I had especially like tube and coco worms!
