Nitrate reduction and po4 reduction.
Clam Guy replied to angelfishlover's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Any facts in that statement? I'm not looking for an argument , I just want to make sure. Because my fuge area is 20% of my display volume. I'm running macro right now, and it seems to keep phosphates at 0, but does little to alter nitrates. Am i better to ditch it? I'm also running a Kent Marine Phos Reactor. So, should I ditch the fuge? How about I replace it with a 6" DSB? -
Thanks JR! Nice seeing you here. The vid looks great! Btw, can you have them on timers, having them work in sequence? Cheers

Thanks a lot TntR2!

Are they sold in HK? If so, are they cheaper there? Thanks

Help with my 90G Cube Future SPS Tank
Clam Guy replied to Clam Guy's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
I think you guys are asking pics of Jon's new tank. If you're asking pics of my tank. Nothing to post really. Boring BBT with some LRs, powerheads, empty sump, and few fish and snails and other boring equipment. In a few months when I get some SPS and more fish then maybe I'll post some pics. Cheers -

Help with my 90G Cube Future SPS Tank

Thanks Jon! Yup, sure is, especially when one decides to embark on SPS! Nice to know you're here. Hope to see more of your knowledgeable posts! Cheers, -
Love the cube and BBT look. I have a 2.5ft x 2 ft x 2.5ft and BBT too. No sps yet, will add in 3 or 4 months. Just three 3 fish. What's your equipment?
-
I just went BBT, and never looked back. I actually prefer my BBT scape and the look way better than SSB or DSB. I understand its a hassle to go BB esp when you have corals. Luckily my tank is only 6 weeks old with 3 fish and 2 cleaner shrimp. It was very easy to go BB. Cheers

Yes, possible. Have a huge chaeto refugium and have a huge remote DSB. That should do the trick. Minimal fish load will help too along with excellent husbandry. After all this, you may still have excess nutrients, but your sps may still be ok, and they may not colour up nicely. Perhaps stay brown only.

I think if bioballs or biohome are managed effectively then they should not create nitrate. At least this is what I read somewhere. But reefkeeping is suppose to be fun and simple. I would go without them too, less risk, and husbandry, and more simplicity - hence more fun!

I like the way you hanged your lights using pvc pipes. Nice aquascaping, esp in BB.

Cool, that's awesome. Thanks, I want lots of chaeto, but I guess I need a phosphate reactor too. Cheers,

Tank Dimensions? Is it a cube?
-
Great bro! Love the MI! Wish I could get one, but my tank is too small, 30"L x 24"W x 30"H, 90Gals. What are your tank dimensions? What's your lighting, skimmer? Cheers,
-
Sure! There is some argument that putting a DSB in a sump area that is not as large as your main tank area is not very effective. Some believe that for a DSB to be more effective, the area of the remote DSB should be the same area as the main tank. That's up to you to decide. But you can put it straight away. All of it. 6" - 8" is fine. Studies have shown, that anything over 8" is no longer beneficial... now if only I can remember the link to those studies I wouldn't use biohome or bioballs at all. Nitrate factories.... Cheers

Thanks, OK, am thinking of putting a filamented flasher first, then a Male Lineatus fairy. Cheers -

Thanks, I want these babies! -
I heard in wetwebmedia that bioballs are too efficient in converting ammonia, to nitrite, to nitrate, hence they become nitrate factories. I would leave it out and save your $.
-
Anyone here keep both together or know if it's ok to keep both? Thanks
-
Hi chercm! Tell me about your chaeto. How well does it keep phosphates and nitrates in check? I want to install one for my future 90g sps cube. How do you maintain it? Lighting? Flow? Cheers

I agree Tineng. I definitely need more flow. A tunze seems like a much better option than buying lots of seios. Cheers -
