  1. Yes.. you are right.. initially the hole is 3/4", and I fit in a PVC pipe.. and the pipe size is 1/2". Water flow back from small tank is slower than water flow into the tank.. Hence instead of PVC pipe.. i am now using rubber water pipe.. bigger hole to flow back.. now it is working fine. Just wonder how much macroalgae is needed for the small tank in order that it's effectively reduce NO3. ANd what kind of lighting is recommended.
  2. My main tank is 4ft x 2ft x 2.5ft. 150gallon, 560lliter I have created DSB from 4½" slope to 8" with grade 0 and 1 sand just 2 weeks ago. So will not mature until 9 mths. I have also setup a small tank 17" x 13" x 14.5" sharing water with sump flow out from the skimmer. Purpose of tank is to reduce NO3 for the time being by keeping macroalgae. How much macroalgea is needed in this small tank in order to be effective? What lighting is suitable for such macroalgae? I have seen one in HongLeong, it's a 2ft x 2ft x 1½ft high with 6" sand and full of macroalgae using T5 light.
  3. My weipro skimmer (2014) after 3 days of skimming.. Dark drown When 1 week.. close to black already.
  4. Great.. Since I have already set up another small tank next to my sump to keep macroalgea to reduce NO3.. I can also keep seahorse or pipefish there... that's my whole intention. Water pump up by my skimmer from the sump is now flow to the custum made small tank (17"x13"x14.5") whereby macroalgea is kept to reduce NO3.. I drilled a hole near the top so that as soon as water of the small tank reaches that level, it is flow back to the main sump, no additional pump require as the flow rate is hard to maintain.
  5. Thanks.. I don't think those are harmful too.. but it's all over my tank.. haha Anything that feed on it?
  6. Need to consult you guys. When I switch off my overflow system pump..and the water is still, I can see thousands of flies swimming around in my tank. It's white, and the size of newly hatch brimp shrimp, but it is swimming fast. It like to swim just under the light. May I know what is that? Could it be the cause of Ich? 2 weeks ago an outbreak of whitespot diseases wipe out all the fish (about 30) in my tank slowly until all fish died. Last Sat, I put in 2 damsels to test out.. and it has got whitespot too.

  12. Just to check out the price of a new set of T5 light cost? I know there are good and bad.. Just tell me the price of the cheap brand and an average brand price. Thanks.
  13. Initial I have 60kg of grade 1 and 3 sand to fill up 3-4". Later on I added on another grade 0 X 40kg and grade 1 x 20kg Now total 120kg sand.. front 4½" and back 8" thick. So the top most layer is super fine. I know that DSB will only mature 9mths later, that's why I am using some denitrator pellet and polymer filter, and protein skimmer to reduce No3. Also change water occasionally. I have already build another small tank underneath my tank to keep macroagle. At this point of time.. I learnt my lesson and only add fish and coral slowly when necessary. Wait for the last few nemo to die first, wait 1 mth before adding again) I am also using a domestic long fan (ichiban brand $50+ with remote control and timer) those long stand fan about 2½ ft height to blow the surface.. Much cheaper than those motor fan selling in LFS..costing $70+ per small fan.. Not to surprise you with just a fan, the temperature reaches 26.8°C last night when I switch on my aircon.. damn cool. Normal day is 27.5°C. Only problem is water evaporate fast.
  14. Use to be this on 16th Aug 03
  15. JUst some experience sharing: Guys, I started cycling my tank mid of July, took 2½ weeks to complete with ammonia and nitrite close to 0, nitrate 25-50ppm. I started to add fish, more and more, 11 clown, 1x9" blue face, 1x9" blue ring, 1x6"blue tang, 1x3" yellow tang, and 7 angel fish, 2 lionfish, 3 damsel, and some other small fish.. total about 30 fish altogether. With an outbreak of ich and parasite 2 weeks ago, I put in 120 drops of MedicCure blue solution, overdose, whole tank blue, but according to instruction, i am suppose to put in 300drops (1drops per 2 liter). SOme fish die immediate, some fish body rot.. most fish suffer eyes cloudy. So today, I left 4 clown fish only, and going to die soon. NH3 and NO2 close 0, but NO3 75ppm after 50% water change. Till today my skimmer still collecting blue color solution in the container. I even use those denitrator pellet and 2 pieces of polyma filter to help remove NO3. I am wondering what is the main reason with the 4 activities below 1) overdose of mediccure 2) high concentration of No3 3) rearranging of liverocks 4) 50% water change 5) adding of sand Currently I have added 120kg of sand to my tank. Create a slight slope, with front 4½" and behind 8" of sand. Hope this can help in long run.. do not want such mishap to happen again..
  16. Ok.. I respect you answer.. And I think you deserve that for $200 .. U win.
  17. Hotsoup. How much will you stop bidding? Seem like you keep raising the price.. Friend friend is it..
  18. Just some analysis: To replace the 2 MH bulb = $200+ & to replace the 2 FL tube = $100+ Other brand of new MH light with 2 bulb of 65k cost $600+ If the MH light successfully bid at $180 So ($200+) + ($100+) + ($180) = $500+ Conclusion: A saving of $100+ for 1 that used for 1 year. Anyway I try bid $145.
  19. SKump shrimp may help, but if water condition isn't right, your shrimp may die too. Those shrimp isn't $3 that you can keep adding in to cure ich, they cost $8-$14 depending on size...
  20. I was told that crab was optopus favourite food.
