Hailea Chiller - HC 150A (1/10hp) is good for my tank?
mjck replied to oldnick's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I use to run the 150a in my 22x18x22. It took around 45mins to cool down 1deg to 26.5. Now running a teco tr10 and it takes around 20mins to do that. I think the 150a can support your tank but it may not be efficient compared to the higher hp one. You may spend more on electrical $ in the long run if you use the 150a. -
Hi, thinking of getting this skimmer for my small tank with ~120litres. Couldnt find any user or lfs comment on this one. Any Bros using/used this skimmer care to comment? Cheers!

I got mine from madpetz. Caribsea brand Ocean direct Oolite live sand. I used 2 medium sized bags 20lbs of the sand for my less than 2 feet tank. The caribsea webby will have the formulas to help you determine the amount of sand required for your tank dimensions . The sand particles are 1 ~ 0.6mm .

Any bros knows what is this? Came with my gsp. It moves around slowly within a small rock region but not as fast like nudibranch or snail .

Life brand distilled now 2x 1.5l for 95cents! Good deal

Could be trapped air... But if it's still there after 1 or 2 days, then it could be a leaking canister or piping that is taking in air. Check your inlets and outlets. Else you can try resetting the canister buy opening it and refit the orings when putting it back.

Estimated cost and maker for sump tank
mjck replied to mjck's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Thanks! That's been factored in. --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=1.427719,103.765729 -
Filter wool will get it cleared up. Mine didn't clear up for 2weeks (probably due to arogonite sand also). You can use activated carbon to speed up the process and it sure did a good job in polishing the water kilat kilat! --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=1.428261,103.764587

Hi Bros, I am planning to upgrade my plastic bucket sump to something more proper. Plan is a 28 by 15 by 12 sump with 2 compartments. Any idea what's the estimated cost and tank maker? Many thanks in advance!

Do you need chiller for a simple 2 ft tank?
mjck replied to Xtrader's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Don't think we can get away from the chiller if you want to keep corals healthy .... Especially when our weather is so hot. Fans can only bring down the temp by 1~1.5 degree of the abient temperate. Not forgetting we add that temperature back into the tank with all the lights and pumps that we put in the tank... -
Btw caught the little nudibranches pricks and cleared one egg sack.. Now zoas under close observation to see if there is more...

I have some Zoas that's been attacked by zoa eating nudibranch... Now the polyps looks like bitten biscuits with missing tentacles and chips. Do they regenerate the bitten bits?

ideal width of overflow and dimension of drilled hole
mjck replied to Emmanuel's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
For the hole size, you need to confirm the diameter of the threaded part of the tank adaptor fitting. My 1" fittings measured 32mm and used a 35mm hole saw. Not so ideal but works fine without leaks, thanks to the larger flanges it has.? You may want to get the tank adaptor from Madpetz as they use two female adaptors and a threaded pipe... Which gives a much wider flanges than the standard ones you get from hardware shops. -
Just connect the return pump of the sump to chiller .. Then chiller out back into main tank. Chillers will need high flow to be efficient.

Also kenah small carrot liao.... Bought brown one at 2 and yellow one at 6. Guess newbies have to pay the price.

Was at Iwarna a couple of days ago... Boss says not selling it yet, but you can pre-order. One thing i notice is that this wave maker is pre-programmed. Still comparing this with other options...

Looks good! Going down to check it out. Vortech pumps starts around with 4 hundred dollar bills! Too much for me...

Thanks for the inputs! i did it! Bit nerve wreaking but once it starts going, its more like boring a hole through wood (with much less pressure) Now doing the waiting game (cycling) with 40lbs of live sand and ~45kg of live rocks. Still could not figure out how to post pictures.... only manage to upload into my gallery.

This is a setup of my first reef tank. Tank is a 22"x18"x22" 12mm glass tank converted from a planted setup.
