As I have replied several forumners who PM'ed me. The cost is definitely higher or the same as the commercial LED lights now available. If you are not into DIY, then my advice is to buy commercial LED sets. Their prices have dropped dramatically compared to 2 yrs ago.

My electrical bill dropped from $160+ to $130+ per month. Around $30+ savings per month so far. Oct registered the first drop. Aug and Sep was still $160+ due to PUB estimation of bill. I'm going to monitor subsequent months... maybe higher due to haze and using aircon more this month.

Just ordered 1 of this. My old dual digital timer switch got fried recently. Tripped the breaker and whole house was blackout for almost 12hrs. Didn't know until came home at night. Lucky no fatalities in my tank.

Your tank bracing better be super reinforced. When that thing blows, your tank wall might get blown off

Don't know how true, but I'm told that if you keep FOWLR without chiller, long term the fishes will lose colouration and look dull.

Realised that to add more IO to the Arduino you need to add expansion board... Bezz, Where did you get your expansion board from? Is it a I2C protocol board?

I saw the LED shop on SLT 3rd floor selling constant current drivers for LED. $35 for highest wattage driver, can run 15x 3W LED at 700mA, no dimming. Not sure how is the quality though since its China made. Maybe you can try 1 of these instead of running with resistor in series.
