  1. The smell can be quite bad... open all windows to ventilate. Else your family will be cursing you to stop before you even start the hobby
  2. What lind of LS you have? Not all LS will eat algae. Some that are supposed to eat algae may not eat.

  6. 20K looks nice but you need higher wattage to offset the drop in brightness. Natural sunlight is around 10K colour temp. So most of the algae and corals have maximum photosynthesis near this range. If you are using 20K, you may need to supplement with 10K bulbs at the same time.

    Seems like not so easy to control the AC frequency, or is this overkill? Variable Frequency Drive Or is there a easier way?

    Thats why I'm thinking that for AC pump instead of turn off the motor, just run it at 25% or less of the rated speed, during the OFF cycle.

    Hydor controller is for newer DC Hydor pumps. Doesn't work with the older AC types.
  10. 20k does not have enough brightness to penetrate 2.5' depth. Close to 10k would be better since thats closer to sunlight colour.

    Just wondering that these work well for DC motor, but if using the normal AC motor like Hydor K series is it possible to change the AC frequency? Since AC motors work based on the 50-60Hz range, if we can change the frequency, then its possible to control the speed of the motor?
  12. Clementi 328 has some marine stuff, but more on freshwater. Rates are reasonable.

  14. My flame angel took 3-4 wks to come out of the rock work. Now it fights with my tangs for food

  16. My rockwork is always a work in progress. Whenever buy new coral, sure will end up doing a bit of rescaping to accomodate the new coral.
  17. A lot anemone at ML, several yumas. Wasn't paying attention to the fishes But noticed quite a few mandarins and gobies. Stopped by J1reh... only some corals were considered discounted. Pratas were still expensive IMO. Got 2 rocks of pinks zoas from there.

  20. Anywhere selling supersuns? Looking for replacement for my which is 80% dead. Saw some at GO yesterday but the price is incredulous
  21. Conclusion: Anything that eats crabs is not reef friendly... including the mantis shrimp.

  23. How about trigger fishes? I thought they eat crabs too.
