Yes, clownfishes are hard to keep for beginners, esp common and true percula clowns. Clownfish even have their own category of disease, known as, what else, "Clownfish disease". I've found Octozin by Waterlife Research effective against it. The easier clowns, IMO are : Clark's clown, Tomato clown, Maroon clown (but most aggressive). Remember to introduce clowns into the tank together or else they may fight.

Tour A Below are a few marine display tanks in the Orchard MRT area. May not be terrific for experts here but perhaps for bringing young family members to view. Feel free to add your comments to each tank, eg. if you know how many gallons, when is the feeding time, what to look out for in the tank, etc : 1. Wisma Atrium Basement Comments: Biggest tank in town. Can take the bubble lift down into the tank for a "dive" effect. 2. Tangs level 1, one of the cosmetic counter Comments: Never know why this range of cosmetic want to put display tanks behind their counters (other shopping centres too), nobody seems to appreciate the fishes. Difficult to take a close-up look at the tank without blocking their business. Perhaps somebody want to try asking the salesgirl about the fishes instead of their cosmetic . 3. Paragon level one (old part of the building, all the way to the back, SIA office) Comments: 4. Mount Elizabeth Hospital level 2 Admission counter Comments: 2 long tanks with lively fishes. (Note: Main entrance close at 8pm) Tour B Suntec and Marina Square 1. Suntec city Basement 1 where the Koi pond and pet shop are Comments: 3 tanks, with television built into the tank (Anyone want to try that at home?) 2. Marina Square level 2 (hard to give direction, ask information counter) Comments: Interesting circular tank built around a pillar.

how to rid phosphate inexpensively ??
adrianlau replied to monathanJP's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I've been doing that, using both Sorb4 and PhosBan (yes, both are now in my canister filter), and even Kent Marine's Phosphate Sponge for 2 days. PO4 climbing down but slowly. Thinking would FR be better since the slow flow of FR is supposed to work better with PO4 media. -

2 Eheim Canisters and undergravel filter. How is that related to phoshpate? I just wonder how to place the FR which is usually standing on the floor, while the main tank is on a stand..... -

Chemical Filtration instead of Biological?
adrianlau replied to adrianlau's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Wouldn't carbon absorb the ammonia? Thinking of using Eheim's carbon to fill up the whole Eheim Canister. -

I've one Eheim Classic with me for more than 10 years already, although used it on and off for various tanks, I dare to say it still works as good as new. Luckily no need COE . Sometimes need to change some parts, which are readily available. Now got 4 Eheim canisters, of course not all in 1 tank. -
Wow! That must be scary, to have fireworks in the house. Mine only been running for 4 mth +. Maybe these fans need a cooling fan for themselves . Or run 2 fans alternately (with timer). After hearing your experience, I'm now considering replacing the fan every 6 mths, like how we replace the filter carbon.
-
Yep, get a bigger fan, make sure it is a DC fan (ie, wire does not need to go through a "black box", don't know what you call that). Also those 2 or 3 small computer fans in a row also don't do that well. My 4 ft tank is cooled by a Sunon fan ($18-20) 24 hrs and temp is below 29C.

Yeah, the 2 Behn's Damsels are terrors. The yellow coloured Talbot's Damsel is very well-behaved. I'm thinking of eventually keeping a tank full of Damsels since they are so easy to keep!
-
Bro Bivi, The 3 Damsels I adopted from you are doing fine.

Why don't you feed your lionfish with feeder freshwater mollies? Mollies adapts very well in marine tanks, no need to acclimatise, just throw them in. You can get them $2 for a bag of almost 20 from C328. Damsels seem quite a waste to be feeder fish. -

Is it possible to get FOWLR tank with pink rocks?
adrianlau replied to KyRo's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
I got my info from here: http://www.garf.org/coralline.html Also, I find CaribSea's Purple Up helps. -
Yeah Havelock stopped selling marine, but their equipment and stuff quite interesting, Two Little Fishes sea vegies is 2nd cheapest I've seen, after AM's special offer, and a wide range of JBL additives and food. As for Tiong Bahru reefers, you mean drato11? and couldn't find marx.

Thanks, just visited the LFS and bought some large Tube Worms. The funny thing is, I've visited this shop before but that was before I got interested in marine fish, so totally forgot about it. Now I've got another nearby marine LFS to visit!
-
Do you know of any lesser known Marine LFS in the South? Bt Purmei's not much stock, Telok Blangah Crescent market has a display tank and the owner can take your order and bring over from his other shop in Jurong West. I'm at Lower Delta Road.

Saw this Nutrafin Waste Control (organic waste eliminator) by Hagen. It says: Naturally breaks down aquarium wastes. Rapidly clears algae from gravel, power filters and interior aquarium surfaces. For fresh and saltwater use. (Contains a unique team of four strains of bacteria) I'm already using Nutrafin Cycle which is widely available, but Waste control is only sold in shopping centre's pet shops and not LFS. Wondering if anyone has tried it?

If it is so hard to catch the fish in our tanks, I'm wondering how did the collectors (what you call them?) catch them for the aquarium trade. Any insider information?

Interested to know who lives around my area, possibly can: 1. Share transport to LFS / farms 2. Easier to trade stuff 3. View tanks I'm not starting a club, just for convenience and for sharing.
