  1. here's some pics! i was skimming out tea, so i've tuned it back a bit and i've got gunk! im not sure why im so excited about seeing fish poo tho. it must be a reefer thing.
  2. hmm. will probably be borrowing a camera tomorrow. Actually, i havent checked my skimmer for the whole day. i rem it was finally skimming out gunk after i tuned it abit. (it was light tea before) will post some crappy pics in a while.
  3. or u can call petmart n ask. what they dun have they might be able to order for u.
  4. how high is the water lever where u have the skimmer?
  5. That sounds like a cunning plan. lol. i'll try that when i get home. 1. cover intake 2. adjust knob til water/bubble level at 1/4 of neck bottom 3. uncover intake one question. 1/4 from neck bottom is at the collection cup level? or the absolute base of the whole part?
  6. but the tuning takes quite a while. maybe i have to wait somemore for the foaming to really start as its not really consistent yet.
  7. Skimmer starting to foam. will get some pics with a better cam when i can borrow one.
  8. Hahaha Are they that rare here? i didn't know. i tot i saw a review for an ext. reef octopus a while ago.
  9. Hi all, I finally had to retire my old workhorse - the very old Reef Octopus NW-110. It was a fun skimmer to have, being able to mod the needlewheel of the OTP into a "mesh"-wheel and improving bubble count, but an upgrade was way overdue. Enter the new Reef Octopus Orca-100 Int Protein Skimmer. Benjamin (Petmart) gave me a gd price for it, altho that was with the China-made OTP pump. Upgrading for a much better Sicce would have cost me more. Quite a lot more, actually. anyway, some pics of the new toy. no more screwing/un-screwing of the collection cup Bubble Plate control valve silencer OTP Pump Old VS New Skimmer in sump So far still breaking it in. will check tml for progress.
  10. i did. not too sure whats wrong. i cant use imageshack links in the "insert image" function anymore?
  11. Hmm. i havent been posting here for a long while. how do u post images now?

  13. I find that the yellow polyps will tend to sting other corals that it comes in contact with. u might wanna keep your rics/yumas a bit further.
  14. Hahah i swear i nv sweated so much in such a short period of time when my backup RIO died.
  15. I got home happily from petmart after buying 2 of those cheap "SunSun" wavemakers. They were cheap, looked sturdy enough despite looking a bit unpolished, and was rated to run at about 6W. (they looked like Hydors) Anyhow, after positioning them properly, and turning off my equipment for a bit of cable arrangement, (since the cables for the SunSuns weren't long enough) i turned the return pump back oh. It rattled, coughed, and died. "No problem", i tot, since i still have an old backup just for this purpose. So i dug the thing out of storage, put it in the sump n plugged it in. After making sure i got the plumbing right, i turned the pump on. It rattled, coughed, and died. Both were RIOs. I panic-ed and dug in storage for another backup, and just as i was going to give up n make a fast trip to AM or C328, i saw something squarish, dark, and handsome. It was my old Eheim Pump. I quickly wound a few rounds of plumber tape around the nozzle for a better fit, did the plumbing, and turned it on. It started pumping water back up to the tank without a sound. i swear the thing looked smug as i looked on in relief. The old faithful never fails to bail me out. The bottom line is, if u dun have a reliable backup pump, Pls go get one. im going to do the same when my pay comes in. Altho the Ehiem probably would go on to run until the end of time, having another in reserve would be damn reassuring. anyhow, the SunSuns seem ok. flow isnt directed at one spot, and is spread out pretty evenly. (altho some of the stronger flow seems to go up) I dun know how the flow might degrade since this is pretty new, i think its a gd buy for pple looking for an option thats easier on the wallet.
  16. as above. has anyone gotten one? was thinking of upgrading my retrofits to 4x39W, but prices are quite high. hence looking for an alternative.
  17. updates: looking better already.
  18. update. gotten something from AM today. one's a little tired looking. im thinking that i can help it get better after a while.
