There are prosumers camera which are in between a dslr and compact camera. Then there are a new breed of cameras which can allow you to perform manual settings on a compact camera. i do not know how's the quality of the photos from these cameras. You are prob paying a premium for being an early adopter of advance technology.

I am not sure about compact cameras and how good they are. Most of the photos I have seen taken with them tend to have quite artificial contrast and oversaturated colour tone. If you ask me, I would still advise you to get a DSLR. Slightly bigger but you can take much better shots. Especially if you intend to have kids in future, then invest in a DSLR. Compact camera is not fast enough to take babies shot without bursting flashes at them. But your call lah bro. your $$ . I will let other bros chip in on the compact camera reccommendations.

hi bluestar My gonio prefer higher lighting and stronger random wave. Place it uprighting facing the top. try to feed phytoplankton periodically too. Once they open, try to leave them alone and they will gradually open bigger and bigger. BTW, your Ph indicated 8.5, hope this is in the evening when you are about to switch off the light cause PH increases throughout the day. If you PH of 8.5 is in the morning, it could hit 8.7 when it reaches the night. rgds Jacky

Hi jxlex yes it is normal for skimmer not to foam sometimes. some skimmer are also more sensitive to water level and will require fine tuning periodically. but yours shld be ok. just try to keep the water level constant and observe. rgds Jacky

Just a normal reefer thought (not advanced) : It's not true bro. you are cycling the tank, not cycling the water. but seawater does help to shorten the cycle period. would still advise you to go through the proper cycling period regardless if you are using seawater or salt mix water. get a test kit to monitor the various cycling stages. cheers Jacky
