  11. this must be the main upset of the tournament thus far....
  12. cycling for big tanks and small tanks are about the same. if you do not understand cycling, follow the 3- 4 weeks rule when your ammonia and nitrite drop to zero. when you do a 50% WC after cycling, your nitrate level will naturally drop. .
  13. never used them before so cannot comment on it. I have tried Pura complete and its quite good. ( a combo of carbon and phosphate remover) mechanical sponge?... most of them are about the same .. Try to use a filter sock in your RSM if you can. highly effective.
  14. I have tried chemipure. They are effective only for the 1st one to two days.. After which, the effectiveness exponentially decline. try using other reputable carbon as chemipure is not cheap.
  15. it should be pretty stable. else your hyrdometer could be faulty.
  16. you can brush it off anytime you like
  17. Welcome to SRC, Snowy. Due to tight budget would be buying all on second-items for my set up, is this recommendable? - Yeah its ok. 1. What is the equipments I need to start off with? (thought to start off 2ft tank with sump for easier upgrade later) - would suggest you go for the basic things 1st. just lighting, protein skimmer, wavemaker 2. Types of fishes and simple corals for a start without chiller (will be buying one, if I gain enuff experiance) clowns, gobies, firefishes, damsels, .. plenty to choose from. reference: http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/aquarium-fish-supplies.cfm?c=15+2124 select those categorized under : Easy care level. 3. How to prevent live rocks from covering with algaes or green slime?? usually for the 1st few months, algae boom is quite natural and unavoidable. after 3 - 4 months, algae growth should slow down and can be controlled by feeding regime, stocking level, using DI water for top up and water change, shortening photo period.... etc etc 4. What is the things I need to buy for coral mantainance In general, you will need a decent set of lights, some coral food, perform regular water changes.... happy researching!
  18. lcf, hmmm your tank is a nano tank hor... put only selective wrasse inside. Most wrasses are pretty good jumpers and need large covered tanks. I am not sure what is a flasher wrasse (I am a wrasse idiot)... but here's a thread that you can check average pricing: http://www.sgreefclub.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=87913&pid=921097&st=80&#entry921097 Hope this helps in some way. cheers Jacky
  19. I will take it if it is still available, Nigel
  20. Width - Dr evil has already answered it, so I will skip it. CREE Leds supposedly can last longer than the SemiLEDs (Maxspect provided LEDs). When you upgrade, only the white LEDs are changed to CREE. The blue LEDs are still SemiLEDs. CREE LEDs are more yellowish as they are 7k. White SemiLEDs are 10k (whiter). To prevent it from looking too yellowish when both blue and white CREE LEDs are switched on, Maxspect compensate it by switching more white LEDs to Blue ones.
  21. You have been busy Aloysius.... haha..... you might want to consider implementing a socket to hold a filter sock in your IOS area instead of using cotton filters. They are much more effective.
  22. Bro, 1) their volume of tank water is like >200 times or more of a nano. 2) they do not do WC of 20%. 3) They have a better and much more mature filtration than our home tanks. Just look at some of their skimmers and algae scrubbers. I have no idea of how the LFS do their water maintenance. THe above are just my thoughts. Given their sheer volume and mature filtration, I am not even sure if they need to do it often.
