  1. The nice thing about acrylic is that there is no thick silicon joint.
  2. I finally managed to convince my wife to have a marine aquarium in the house Those with have spouse with same interest have no idea how fortunate they are. Anyway, I told her it will be a nano tank. It will be small and manageable. Of course she was expecting a size more like pico and no... of course I did not clarify that Else I will be posting on the pico tank thread now. I was looking at the JBJ tanks and ADA ones... but fall back on a custom made acrylic tank due to the fact that I have kids at home. Got this made from Denkebe Plastic. Thanks to Bro Dachkie for the recommendation. Ian was non-responsive and Dama price was a little high. So here's the pic of the tank just picked up.
  3. Explored that already. The shipping cost is estimated about 60 - 90 SGD at least. (I am not sure of the weight and package.) I rather pay a few more bucks for warranty.
  4. Is MP10 available already? or was it MP20 you are talking about?
  5. not hard corals hor.... get live rocks and some soft corals...Hard corals a big NO
  6. lol, I am asking would you like to keep a fish only tank or one with soft corals? Think you can pass hard corals for the time being. budget on eqpt can range from hundreds to tens of thousands. If budget is a constraint, maybe choose a 3 feet 1st. larger tank requires larger capacity eqpt ==>more $$ If you have the dough, then by all means get the biggest possible. Fish only is easiest to keep. you can have a couple of mushrooms and the maintenance is not so demanding.... So really depends on what you want to keep and the budget you have 1st. Agree with the bros here.... you need to read more 1st. But if too overwhelming to read, then just keep posting questions
  7. Depends on what you are taking. For moving object, DSLR is way better. I take more of portraits... so in that aspect, DSLR is able to capture that instant moment (especially if your model is a 3 month old girl). DSLR with 50mm lens also gives more depth of field so making the object stand out more. If you have an external flash, you can bounce it off the ceiling without over-exposing the object. you can also take up to 6fps with DSLR. hmmm for static shots, scenes .... yeah P&S are ok.

  9. A bit disagree.... the performance of a P&S cannot be compared to a DSLR (even if you use the DSLR as a P&S camera). I am one of those user ... hehe D90 has my vote too.
  10. Hi LaW Suggest you go down and physically handle the cameras. My hand are of smaller build so the canon EOS fit better into my palm. Check out the weight of the camera body too. Both Nikon and Canon are good buys with lots of lens options. Happy shopping.
  11. I understand what you mean. I just got a 1.5 cube nano tank and home minister already complaining that it is too bulky... geez. No no on the IQ3 especially if you are new to the hobby. Try to go for 2 feet at least. But if you do not have a choice. then you do not have a choice. You can only keep very very limited invertebrates in that tank. Not even sure if it is a good thing to keep a small fish in there. Suggest maybe you can set it up as a zoos garden. DO a good job and perhaps they will let you upgrade on seeing the beauty of the marine aquaria. Good Luck!
  12. 1) Does grounding probe really leaks current into the tank? Seems to defeat the purpose of grounding already.... does not make sense or am I reading it wrongly. Anyone care to enlighten? 2) and enough of all the LFS talk already. Let's just discuss on the hobby.
  13. hi Simon, Just FYI, I think most of the reefers here are from SE Asia. The climate here is very hot and we need chillers more than heaters. But hopefully someone will have the answer for you. rgds Jacky
