What is the ideal temp to set for reef tank
jackywongto replied to ddon24's topic in General Reefkeeping_
' kekeke it is not the temp setting ... it is housing the chiller in the cabinet anyway it is just a pun. ignore if I am not making any sense. -
Just wondering if this chiller cna be kept in the cabinet. Can help to provide your feedback?

wow 25.5, not surprised your chiller blow in that cabinet -
do I qualify? Mine not JBJ tho.

Thanks for the advise vlamingi. You are correct. I tried switching on the chiller last night maintaining the water at 29.5 deg cel and it was hot already. I have removed the plastic brackets covering the ventilation hole and left the door opened. Don't think it can stand the heat if I leave it closed. I am thinking of removing the door and customized it so that there will be better ventilation. Maybe for the time being, I will just put a small fan inside to see if that can reduce the heat trapped inside. honestly that cabinet is not meant to house chiller but I really do not wish to see more items outside the tank. Rather unsightly.

I am going to set mine 27 - 28 deg cel. -
The reefpack comes with 2 magnet. 1 for the filter and 1 for the skimmer. No. just gonna use MH - thats why I choose a more bluish bulb. Eventually i will use the other MH nova casing (once I have repsrayed it) for as the housing for my LED housing. (maybe a year later) and sell away this nova. Will bring the project earlier if it gets too hot in my house.

I just hope 800lph flowrate is ok for the artica 1/15 HP chiller. Thumbs up to Uncle Thomas (Aquamarin) who helped me connect it this way. He had to do several improvisation to connect it this way.

Hi comy I have not kept one before but did a quick search round the forums. Seems like they will likely to attack ornamental shrimps, snails and possibly small gobies/ fishes as well. Depends on luck though cause some can live peacefully though. Good luck and hope to hear from others. rgds Jacky

The reefpack has a mechanical filter module (cleaner) and a skimmer (9002). The pump in the mech filer is 800lph max. So the water goes into the overflow of the mech filter, through the medias and cotton, enters the pump and gets directed to the chiller via ehiem tubes. The return of the chiller goes straight back into the tank. ... Dunno how to be more clear already lol.

Actually it is pretty simple i think. just get a bottle, puch a hole, insert a small tap or valve, silicon it up. The tricky thing for me is where to put it. It has to be higher than the water level and mine is an open top. Is yours will a hood? If yeah, then it will be so much easier cause you can hide it easily on the bracing.will keep you posted if I manage to source for the mats.

Yeah now when I switch on my MH, I can switch off all the other ceiling lights. So I save back about 100w of house lights.

yeah, 5 mins extra time is bad but the ref did not even think of stopping the game at almost six mins when Man U had the ball. Serves them right for conceding a second. The only thing that the referee did right is that he DID NOT end the game when Ngog was about to score. BTW, Ngog is another underperformer.... he came in with 10 mins left and did not show any pace in chasing after loose balls. I think Benayoun/ D kurt can sprint faster than him even having played 80 mins longer..... Mascherano is plain silly. Losing him for 2 games is very bad. we do not have a midfield general and Lucas Levia is not even premiership material.

I did leh.... the water was clear, then I change filter, then the wool leak dirt back into the tank and it has to re-clean again. Think this will be the story this week. Another 2 - times maybe.

Not high tech lah friend..... High tech = computers, controllers not monitors. Go and see H. Mania tank and that is high tech. mine is just some decent and basic stuff which I think I will need based on my maintenance time availability and husbandry skills. Also Nano tank's (worsen by the fact that it is sumpless) volume is so small that water conditions changes so fast. Need some help in alerting me something is wrong. At least I can perform manual checks once the alarm is raised. I am trying to do without ATO. I am okay to top up water manually 2 x a day. Also thinking of DIYing a very small FW drip dox to compensate for the evaporation loss so I can have 1 eqpt less.

Hey hi Zanzan, how did you check out Henkabe Plastics? Regarding the Reefpack - Dunno yet. I just set it up yesterday. The rocks are from neighbouring reefers so not much dieoffs. No livestock and no market prawn in my fridge. ( I am allergic to prawns lol) Maybe I will throw in some fish food later tonight. Only assessment now is that for the cleaner, it has a decent size for the media. Much bigger than the media rack for red sea skimmer. I can put an entire pack of Pur II (the smaller container version) and still have space for some cotton above and below the bag of pur II. When you want to clean the cotton wool in it, even after you have switch off the power, when you remove the wool as quick as you can, some "dirt" will still leak back into the tank. This was maddness when I just put the black live sand into the tank. (For those who has not used this sand, the whole tank turns muddy when you pour the black sand in and this takes a few hrs to clear.) The wool was so muddy that the minute I remove it, the dirt/mud from the remnant water int eh cleaner was escaping back into the tank. Still figuring out a way to prevent this. But the pump is really silent. I am running it at 800lph but it is so quiet that I am not sure if it is running. Currently I am driving the outlet to my chiller so that I can have 1 less pump in the tank. The skimmer is leaking some very fine micro bubbles in the tank. Instruction booklet says this is normal and it will clear up after 2 - 3 days. I can hear some noise from the collection cup though. "bubble whistling" sound. No waste collection yet of course due to the facts mentioned above and the large amount of live sand in it. Will provide more feedback after next week. Will be getting some live rocks and prob a firefish soon. Then we can see some action.

HAVING ALGAE PROBLEM :(
jackywongto replied to Jas7's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
my goodness, another alternate nick. Sigh..... friend, look at the number of responses from fellow reefers already. all enthusiastic to help. On the other hand, I have not seen Jas7 respond to those questions. (Or would you happen to be Jas7 by any chance? - Just a very wild guess) When a TS post a question, I suppose he would like some help. It does not matter if help comes from a senior reefer on this forum or a nooby on this forum. The response from the fellow reefers are valid consideration points that can help to reduce hair algae. A person could have joined this forum 2 months ago but have been keeping marine for 20 yrs. So is he considered a newbie or senior? Or would you like response from Moderators only? Please check definition of moderators. They are to moderate the topics, post, contents ...... It is NOT their responsibility to respond to each and every thread/ questions. IF you want a response from them only, Please PM them. NOT POST A THREAD! Sorry getting rather pissed at this recurring topic. Am I the only one feels that someone is trying to sow discord and create trouble here? -
Wow your tank really nice Lemon! ** whistle.

Whats the white thing hanging on the tank? the fan? Can take the full pic of it? Nvr see before

Indonesia to set quotas on coral trade
jackywongto replied to HellBliss's topic in General Reefkeeping_
...hmmmm..... my imagination running wild here....they will have licensing on the quota.... then there will be under-table bribery .... then there will be black market corals. So quantity will still be there but price will be raised ... or maybe its just a ploy to raise the cost... -

The refs in BPL is horrible. All pro Man U. See the amount of time added? ridiculous. Almost another Sunderland - Man U repeat telecast. But it backfired this time, we scored the second! Whahahahaha
