question for the pros here. My 18 - 55 mm kit lens is spoilt (unable to autofocus) Does it make sense for me to send it for repair (out of warranty already) or should I just ditch it and get a new one.If its the latter, which lens should I get? -
15 deg!!! wow. I really think the piece of acrylic cover helps to fend off the heat from the water surface. If it really does, those using MH shld try it out.

Mitlancer's "Miracle" Atlantis Walll Mount

just catch your wife in a good mood and propose setting a bigger tank to her. tell her current tank to small, fish and invertebrates not doing well, not happy, you are torturing them bla bla bla..... hit their soft spot then go for the kill...... maybe we should get a bigger tank hehehe Custom make a 1.5 ft width one lah, think you have space for a bigger 1.5 ft width tank. -
no worries. I wanted to post your fan availability but thought better let you post yourself hehe..... just another thought, the MH casing gets quite hot. Is it feasible to get a mini fan installed inside the casing to cool it?
-
Hey Hi Reefzz yeah very clear like the Acrylic very much. for your fan, I suggest you look in your storeroom to see if there is any unwanted power adaptor. Can be laptop power, handphone charger et- any dc supply. Most handphones are 5v dc. some pocket pc chargers are 12v then you can go to any computer shops to get the fans. The USB fans ones are 5v, others are 12v The 12v large ones are about 10 - 14 SGD. Becareful of the spinning blades though especially if you have kids. There is no "fence" for the fans so you can get hurt by the exposed rotating blades. I got cut by it last night. nasty.

Hi Evil that was my concern in the beginning too. But no leh...... I left it on for 6 hours yesterday. But I was able to maintain it at 27deg cel easily. but yesterday was a very cool day though. The chiller did not kick off very often (approx 40 - 60 mins once) and each time about 10 - 15 mins. This is approx. I did not have time to sit front of it yesterday. maybe thurs, I will bring my laptop and monitor closely the timing. I have even placed the MH about 10 - 12 inch from the surface of the water. I suspect my Acrylic cover fends off the heat from the surface of the water. The air above the cover feels hot but beneath the cover, the heat is only at about 50% than that of above. In addition, I think acrylic holds temp better than glass tanks so that could be another reason. Will get a thermometer and measure the temp accurately on Thursday.

ignore the question. just went to check out on the web. it takes about 6 months for these fellas to stabilise. I will shoot to maintain cal at 420, raise alkalinity to 9 dkH and magnesium at 1350. hopefully the PH will be more stable then.

Whats that he's carrying?

Need some help here. My KH is 7, cal is 420, PH 8.0 So I should buff mag and dkh ?
-
haiya...... shld have got from you lol. Thanks for the offer. 2 hours already. No heat in the cabinet. I think 1 fan should be sufficient. will monitor again tml. need to put my aircon remote control to monitor the temp inside ... hehe

thanks weisheng. you should hold a simple workshop on ree/ fishf photography one of these days -
wow ming69, I really dunno how you manage to keep your outdoor tank so clean. really nice tank you have. I had one in the balcony once and the amount of time needed to keep it clean was maddness.

Additives. Focusing on getting PH, cal and mag balanced 1st. Strontium and the rest can come in later. Anyone been using Kent Marine additives? any feedback?

Ok I have tried putting the fan in multiple positions...but it seems that this is the most effective. I have moved the chiller approx 3 inch nearer towards the door. Placed the fan above it blowing across the top and viola....the heat seems subdued quite effectively. Will let it run for the night and monitor tomorrow.

50mm 1.8 you are talking about or the 1.4? sigma or canon? -
wah got diagram somemore..... sounds like a good idea. Just that probably the fan sucking cool air should be placed at the bottom at the door in front of the vent hole. But defintely i think i need to get a fan or leave my door opened. Sometimes I dun get it. The MH is hot. heats up the water. Get a chiller to cool the water. now the chiller heats up. Get a fan to cool the chiller.... Who is going to cool the fan??

Kekeke no lah. Just taken aback by your age. (Pls do not take it negatively. I have nothing against youth ) just that sometimes in virtual world, the impression and actual person can be quite a mismatch. But nice to meet ya and Hellbliss. good to put a face to the name or to the nick in this case

HKG Cool. I am heading there too. My girl want to take photo with Mickey. (I should not have shown her my photos in Orlando Disney lol) Corals- hmmm mainly LPS. I will be getting SPS frags only and see how. 3ft tank... so you still will be using your MCE? Hmmm I think the fun part of starting a reef is doing the scaping, Shopping for corals, fishes.... you will be missing out on a lot of fun. Also the scaping needs to be fine tuned from time to time as you add more LS and try to make space. But hey, its your call. we will support you all the way! For stand, strongly suggest against using steel/ cast iron. They WILL rust regardless. Why you do not like wood? My 1st 4 feet was a wrought iron stand. Tank is ok but looking at the rust damn sianzzzz. Especially when they flake and drop on the floor...... Think twice, thrice even hor.....

Try to go with one. If needed will add another one. I have checked. The hotest part of the chiller is its top. The exhaust coming out is not that hot. So Will try and pull the chiller nearer towards the door. leave the opening at the back bigger. install the fan on the door blowing at the top of the chiller. open up the 2 side vent holes. Anyway trial and error and if which placement will lower the temp more. Any suggestions? feel free to shoot pls.

Long shot - Anyone has a canon 50mm lens that I can loan or rent for my HKG trip? Wanna try it out before I invest in one.
