Back to my PO4 reduction program..... I am planning to take another reading of the PO4 level tonight. It should still be 0.5ppm. Then I am going to dump more GFO into my MCE600. Let it run for a day and see whats the level tomorrow night. Keeping fingers crossed that I can at least halve it.

No idea leh.... maybe you can talk to some of the sponsors to bring these in. We got ours from USA previously. They are retailing for USD 49.50 in the US. comes with 6 satchets of regeants. 25 satchets cost USD 8.99. SO its less than SGD0.50 per test appart from the initial checker cost. I am going to order my Alkanity and Calcium checker soon as well as some phosphorous regeants. Let me know if you want to tag along.

Really simple to use and very quick. I really like it. Comes with a laminated card with instructions and other information. Here's a how it works review with photos: Nifty storage Box Push the on button and it fires up asking for C1 C1 is the water sample from your tank Insert it in the unit and press the button again...this calibrates your tank water and then it asks for C2 C2 is the sample with the reagent added..1ml of reagent Add the reagent and invert it 5 times according to instructions and insert back into checker Press the button and in 10-15 seconds you have your answer in ppm If desired multiply by 0.056 to get dKH That's it...easy, straight forward, and more accurate than comparing colors on a card. I guess their Phosphate checker is nice as well but I wouldn't use it as much as i do for Alk. This one's a winner.

I just used the new unit for the first time tonight. After 3.5 years with the same tank I must admit I do not test as much as I should.. Especially for one of the most important elements alkalinity. You get to a point where you can read the corals but can you really? Output is in ppm, so yeah it's scientific but what does that mean to a guy that has been using dKH for 4+ years? Anyone using Alk and Ca Hanna Checkers?

ok. found the formula to convert phosphorous ppb to phosphate ppm PO4 Test 1 = 171 *3.066 / 1000 = 0.524 ppm ... ouch ..... PO4 Test 2 = 164 *3.066 /1000 = 0.502 ppm How to bring PO4 to below 0.1 ppm?? Tsk Tsk Tsk.. headache..... The high PO4 level is probably from my rocks. There was a period of 6 months where I just took tap water to top up my tank directly.

So I think 171 and 164 are pretty consistent. 3% deviation and this is phosporous ppb. I need to locate the multiplying factor to get the phosphate reading. Here's some tips on what I did to try to get a consistent reading. 1) ensure that the vial has no thumprint each time after you touch it. - ie, after you add the 10 ml, after you uncap it and added the regeant, after shaking the vial. ALways wipe the vial with a clean vinyl cloth prior to putting it back into the tester. always try to hold the vial by the cap after cleaning. 2) The facing of the vial where you place it back should be the same. I always turn the vial till the 10ml marking is facing me. 3) Ensure that you pour all the powder into the vial and none is left in the sachet. Also Ensure that the regeant is fully dissolved in the vial. Do not shake the vial violently as this would create bubbles which in return will miscue the reading. gently circle it (like making milk fr babies - avoid creating bubbles) Now I need to locate the factor to multiply the reading so that I can get the phospate ppm reading........ Gotta check back tens of pages in another thread.. Sigh......

There has been some discussion (raised by CHercm) about not being able to get a consistent reading. The above photo in my last post captured the 1st test reading - 171 I took another test again and the reading was 164 in the photo below. 2 packet of empty regeant sachet just to verify the consistency.

Something else I got from ML today .... a Pinpoint ORP Probe. Reviving an old trusty monitoring toy..... Unfortunately he does not have stock for the Pinpoint PH probe. Guess the PH monitor will have to join his buddy much later......

colour chart. It is definitely easier to take the reading on this TM kit than the API kit. The API kit has a narrow vial and you need to beat the reflection and try to match the colour. TM's vial is much larger. you place it on top of the clour chart in the white circle and match the colour from the top. More consistent reading. No2 Reading for my tank today is 0.15mg/l and NO3 is 15mg/l

Has anyone used TM kits before? There is a solution A, C and D. I did the test and only used A and C as per instruction. No mention of Solution D at all. What is that for? Would anyone be able to advise?

Update: Could not locate my set of API test kit. Dropped by ML to get a set. Henry has only Tropic Marine in stock. It is contains both the nitrite and nitrate test kit in a box. Bought a set to test out.
