  1. I mean his lightset hor... not the "other canon"
  2. Larry can put his cannon into those lamp shades
  3. Back to my PO4 reduction program..... I am planning to take another reading of the PO4 level tonight. It should still be 0.5ppm. Then I am going to dump more GFO into my MCE600. Let it run for a day and see whats the level tomorrow night. Keeping fingers crossed that I can at least halve it.
  4. I have receive some PMs regarding the checkers. Some of you are keen to place order as well. These are the Hanna checkers for marine aquarium use. Checkers HI 736 - Phosphorous ULR CHecker HI 755 - Alkalinity Checker HI 758 - Calcium Checker HI 764 - Nitrite ULR Checker Regeants HI 736 - 25 : Phosphorous Regeants HI 755 - 26 : Alkalinity Regeants HI 758 - 26 : Calcium Regeants HI 764 - 25 : Nitrite ULR Regeants Currently I am making some enquiries and will be ordering soon next week. Usually the ETA will be about 2-3 months due to backlog and shipping. Just drop me a PM this week if you are keen. Each set of checker with additional regeants should be about SGD 90 - 100 (inclusive of shipping)
  5. No idea leh.... maybe you can talk to some of the sponsors to bring these in. We got ours from USA previously. They are retailing for USD 49.50 in the US. comes with 6 satchets of regeants. 25 satchets cost USD 8.99. SO its less than SGD0.50 per test appart from the initial checker cost. I am going to order my Alkanity and Calcium checker soon as well as some phosphorous regeants. Let me know if you want to tag along.
  6. Yo Mike ! Nice to hear from you. So many goodies also no use.... my tank not ready leh.... Spiderman Peter arh....... just sms this week.... he says no mood to reef now.... Guess he is still having his break.... hope he comes back soon.
  7. Pictorial step by step for Alkalinity checker from another forum : http://www.brevardareareefsociety.com/forums/showthread.php?6307-Hanna-Alkalinity-Checker Hanna Alkalinity Checker Picked up a Hanna Alk Checker. Really simple to use and very quick. I really like it. Comes with a laminated card with instructions and other information. Here's a how it works review with photos: Nifty storage Box Push the on button and it fires up asking for C1 C1 is the water sample from your tank Insert it in the unit and press the button again...this calibrates your tank water and then it asks for C2 C2 is the sample with the reagent added..1ml of reagent Add the reagent and invert it 5 times according to instructions and insert back into checker Press the button and in 10-15 seconds you have your answer in ppm If desired multiply by 0.056 to get dKH That's it...easy, straight forward, and more accurate than comparing colors on a card. I guess their Phosphate checker is nice as well but I wouldn't use it as much as i do for Alk. This one's a winner.

  9. Here's a review on the alkaline checker from StevieT in nano reef forum http://www.nano-reef...hp/t261141.html Hanna has really invested a lot into the aquarium market recently and it is showing with good results. These new little checker units grab the eye, but do they work? This is a review on the Alkalinity Checker and it has been done in depth on other forums. So much so that Hanna changed it's testing reagent as a result. They found that the powder (alk only) was not accurate enough. Being a powerhouse Hanna went back to the drawing board, came up with a solution, sent out replacements to anyone that was effect and took care of their vendors. Fast. I just used the new unit for the first time tonight. After 3.5 years with the same tank I must admit I do not test as much as I should.. Especially for one of the most important elements alkalinity. You get to a point where you can read the corals but can you really? What I love: Sleek design One button operation Ease of use Everything is included in a hard protective case Cheap, really cheap compared to the time saved and quality of results Accurate checked against a Seachem and API test kit. Output is in ppm, so yeah it's scientific but what does that mean to a guy that has been using dKH for 4+ years? You must clean the glass tube with a cloth, yeah not a big deal I didn't start using one earlier What you do in StevieT language: [*]Suck up saltwater sample from tank in a syringe[*]Press black button on unit[*]Fill glass tube to 10 ml mark[*]Place in unit[*]Press black button to zero out[*]Take tube out, fill with 1ml of reagent[*]Wipe tube with micro fiber cloth[*]Place in unit[*]Press black button[*]Read ppm with sober eyes[*]Convert or know if that is to add or subtract dosing After your first read of the waterproof directions and operation you can do this test in no more than two minutes. It is where we should be in 2011, digital baby. The unit even shuts itself off. So how do you convert ppm to dKH? Visit here: http://www.saltyzoo....lcs/AlkConv.php Here is a stock picture I will edit and add real ones later. (125ppm = 7dKH)
  10. lol Life is too stressful.. need to detox with these toys ,,,,
  11. More info on Hanna Calcium Checker from Reef Builder Sneak peek at the prototype Calcium Checker from Hanna Posted on June 15th, 2011 by Jake Adams The Calcium Checker from Hanna could be the easy-to-use colorimeter for calcium testing that reef aquarists and LFS employees have always dreamed of. For those reef aquarium water testers who are either color blind or lack sensitivity between blue and pink, the gradual color change of all titrated calcium test kits has been a bane and when it comes down to it, we all have a slightly different idea of when the color has completely changed. Thankfully, Hanna has answered the calls for a digital solution to the analog titration problem and coupled with their popular alkalinity checker, the Calcium Checker could be in even higher demand than the now widely used Phosphate Checker. Check back in a couple days when we've had a chance to thoroughly test the Calcium Checker, but the full kit is pictured after the break. <SPAN id=more-35104></SPAN>
  12. Anyone using Alk and Ca Hanna Checkers?
  13. ok. found the formula to convert phosphorous ppb to phosphate ppm PO4 Test 1 = 171 *3.066 / 1000 = 0.524 ppm ... ouch ..... PO4 Test 2 = 164 *3.066 /1000 = 0.502 ppm How to bring PO4 to below 0.1 ppm?? Tsk Tsk Tsk.. headache..... The high PO4 level is probably from my rocks. There was a period of 6 months where I just took tap water to top up my tank directly.
  14. Hey Poh... Nice slim tank. - The power connectors on the top looks scary though... guess they are securely placed. Is the white cabinet glossy surface? looks good !
  15. So I think 171 and 164 are pretty consistent. 3% deviation and this is phosporous ppb. I need to locate the multiplying factor to get the phosphate reading. Here's some tips on what I did to try to get a consistent reading. 1) ensure that the vial has no thumprint each time after you touch it. - ie, after you add the 10 ml, after you uncap it and added the regeant, after shaking the vial. ALways wipe the vial with a clean vinyl cloth prior to putting it back into the tester. always try to hold the vial by the cap after cleaning. 2) The facing of the vial where you place it back should be the same. I always turn the vial till the 10ml marking is facing me. 3) Ensure that you pour all the powder into the vial and none is left in the sachet. Also Ensure that the regeant is fully dissolved in the vial. Do not shake the vial violently as this would create bubbles which in return will miscue the reading. gently circle it (like making milk fr babies - avoid creating bubbles) Now I need to locate the factor to multiply the reading so that I can get the phospate ppm reading........ Gotta check back tens of pages in another thread.. Sigh......
  16. There has been some discussion (raised by CHercm) about not being able to get a consistent reading. The above photo in my last post captured the 1st test reading - 171 I took another test again and the reading was 164 in the photo below. 2 packet of empty regeant sachet just to verify the consistency.
  17. Another old toy taken out of the storeroom..... Remember this ? Hanna Phosphorous ULR Colorimeter
  18. Last acquistion today.... standing by - Brightwell MB7
  19. Something else I got from ML today .... a Pinpoint ORP Probe. Reviving an old trusty monitoring toy..... Unfortunately he does not have stock for the Pinpoint PH probe. Guess the PH monitor will have to join his buddy much later......
  20. colour chart. It is definitely easier to take the reading on this TM kit than the API kit. The API kit has a narrow vial and you need to beat the reflection and try to match the colour. TM's vial is much larger. you place it on top of the clour chart in the white circle and match the colour from the top. More consistent reading. No2 Reading for my tank today is 0.15mg/l and NO3 is 15mg/l
  21. Hey V, How's it going bro? Thanks for the compliments. Share frag again when my tank is ready k? cheers
  22. Has anyone used TM kits before? There is a solution A, C and D. I did the test and only used A and C as per instruction. No mention of Solution D at all. What is that for? Would anyone be able to advise?
  23. Update: Could not locate my set of API test kit. Dropped by ML to get a set. Henry has only Tropic Marine in stock. It is contains both the nitrite and nitrate test kit in a box. Bought a set to test out.
