  1. happy with your Tux Siang? or your hairy algae is too invasive?
  2. yeah, Thats true bro. recall seeing an article somewhere but forgot the reason.
  3. Feel so sorry for the fishes. hope you get a larger tank soon. 2 ft tank is still too small for them.
  4. I think sometimes Ketchup gets exiled to the sump by Desi......
  5. Or maybe practising his bollywood moves... ... Quite normal for them to hide for a couple of hrs if u have just bought them.
  6. Playing hide and seek with his fishmates....
  7. Very nice kiko. U have come a long way since your 2 footer. Good job ! ) Sent from my iPad2 using Tapatalk
  8. Just some food for thoughts..... - when was that article written? Does that theory still stand today? - his tips is based on what type of tank? Fowlr, mix reef, SPS? - he is an expert? He just wrote an article on calculating tank turnover rate. Well maybe he is but On the basis of that article, a statement like" the correct flow rates shod be 6-10x according to the author of this article" would be more appropriate. It is no good to just read an article and take excerpts of it at face value. Can do more research on SRC (previous postings) and other forums like RC. Lots of interesting topics and discussion there. Can also have a chat with some of the sponsors here.... ML, DeLighting, reef depot etc, they are more than willing to give valuable advise. Cheers and happy reefing..... 9. Saw Nassaris snails at CF. They should still have them. ML might still have the small ones.... not too sure. Give henry a call.
  10. CF usually have percs of all sizes. I saw a pair of small Onyx percs at the premium coral tanks. cost about 10 reds.
  11. u already spent so much on the tank, why save on the wavemaker which is pretty crucial? I Iike the Vortech Technology but Tunze really gives you more value for money with its durability and peace of mind.
  12. we have enough storms in our life jun, why do you want one in your tank ?
  13. hmmm i am also wondering why moonlight will cause diatoms?
  14. +1 and like poomoon.,.... just 1 word ..... Sweeeeee!
  15. Bro Superior1, If my memory did not fail me, i recall (as a rule of thumb) the minimum is 10x the tank size and 20x the tank size is average? 4 - 6x seems exccessively low. PS: For a minute, I thought you were another bro in the forum. You sound so much like him. cheers!
  16. good move on relocating the clams ....... mine was killed by bristleworm......
  17. Reef Group on WhatsApp. Thinking of forming a WhatsApp chat group for reefing buddies. Can use it to arrange lunch meets, notify each other of shipments / whats new in LFS., etc. Share additives, media, bulk orders etc If anyone is keen, please pen in your nick and PM me your mobile number. (if there is an exisiting group already, please let me know so i cn join and do no have to "reinvent the wheel") - jackywongto -
  18. Thanks bro. CF sells them (tuxs) for about 6 gold coins only. =========== As for algae - you can read this: http://www.amdareef.com/ho_algae.htm quite interesting. I nvr know there can be so many factors encouraging algae growth. They do make sense though. Some Algae Boom Factors: 1. Excessive DOC - insufficient skimming capacity 2. Excessive Nitrate 3. PO4 - PO4 can be introduced into the tank via salt mix, additives, certain food source, tap water etc. 4. Lighting spectrum - T5 tubes that are overage might diminish in certain spectral causing algae growth 5. CO2 - Algae needs CO2 to grow. Tank could be accumulating CO2 6. silica Again with all issue, we need to look at the factors contributing to that issue and identify the root of the issue. My tank does not have green algae growth leh.... But GFO does not work wonders. GFO reduces PO4 but according to my daily testing earlier in the month, this is only at a very slow rate. My tank started from 0.5. My HC GFO only reduces something like 0.01 - 0.02 ppm per day in a filter bag. So it could be the same as in your case too. I have not seen an increase in PO4 since the addition of GFO. My tank started from 0.5 ppm of PO4. (contributed by PO4 leeching from the rocks) Through water change (most effective), Goodbye PO4 and GFO , this is now 0.09 ppm as of today (just tested) Water change comes up to a total of 60% over 3 weeks. Are you using DI water? I can pass you my Hanna PO4 you can test and see if PO4 is the main culprit or is it something else? I now see algae on my tank wall only after 4 -5 days which is pretty good. ** sorry I am penning what ever that is coming to my mind without structuring my thoughts and flow....... gotta multi task...
  19. Normal mundane stuff compared to yours bro. My rainbow are in grayscale. yours are ..... but decided to transition in SPS soon after seeing you " natural progression of hobby, pinnacle of reefing" message.. lol
  20. Bro just make sure your NH4 and NO2 is zero too. Just in case if you are unaware, each time you add livestock, the amount of NH4 and NO2 will increase again hence unbalancing your bacteria count. The more you add, the more unbalance it will be. Hence the saying of add LS slowly. Just keep on using MB7 when you introduce new LS. Cheers Happy Reefing.
  21. They are copepods bro. They are also main staple for certain fishes. There are reefers who integrate refugiums just to maintain the population of copepods. Other purchase live pods from LFS.
  22. Hi Tench1, The black spiny urchin has sharp spikes right? Also if they die, they will leave their spines scattered all round the tank.? I dislike that.
  23. I think you will need to upgrade very soon liao .... Any btw, you guys don't let Terry work so hard lah...... lol
  24. above photo is before. This is an a moment later.
