Hi all, I'm still exploring the best concept to suit my situation. If you refer to this link .... http://www.geocities.com/nosmadasreef/DIY.html Since I'm also using a SeaClone skimmer, this idea kind of trigger me with more options. Here are a few questions which I need to seek your opinion: 1. Should the skimmer be after DSB or before DSB ? 2. I exporing to use siphon as intake of water from main tank and use the skimmer to return to main tank. If power failed, will the siphoning breaks when the water level of refugium and main becomes equal. 3. Saw in LFS there is a kind of sand known as riversand, sugar fine. Is this good for DSB 4. Think of using Ian's idea on OFB for intake of water. Would this be good ? After staring at my current setup, I seem to be able to allocate a current space for the refugium. Will show you guys a picture in my next post for your kind comment. Limpc

Hi, Is your coralife PL or FL ? How much ? Limpc
-
Hi Wolfie, Coralife PL Actinic not cheap man. Saw in Aquamart for $55/-. Whereas, arcadia FL, 30", $24/-. 36" only $30/-. That's why I have incorporate a Actinic FL in my DIY light. Limpc

Hi Anakjoh, I have CoralLife PL Actinic and Arcadia FL Actinic. These are easily available in Singapore. In some not so knowledgeable LFS in Singapore, they call it marine blue. Maybe you can try using this name in KL, too. Limpc

How much u paid for the yellow tang ? Limpc

Do you have chiller ? This is always my motto: No Chiller, No MH. Just like you, I'm running on 9PLs and a FL for similar size of tank as yours and all my softies look great. I cannot comment much on clams under PLs, though. Limpc

Hi Ian, You must be a design student. Excellent illustration. Questions: 1. How would you join the base plate of the refugium ? Bare in mind this has to withstand the weight of water and sand. 2. What do you think of reversing the intake and retutn to tank. In another words, input to refugium by siphon effect and return thro' a small pump which can be located in the refugium itself. What is the merit/demerit of each method. Thanks, Limpc

Thanks for your reply, Tanzy. Don't have a good digital camera to show the detail. When they are not disturbed, they keep still on the mushroom. Would it help if I make a freshwater dip on the mushroom ? Limpc

Hi all, Found a number of these creatures crawling around my newly purchased mushroom. When I touched it, it dashes away with lightning speed. Looking at the picture, the white thing is the one I'm referring. Are these pests ? I've transferred the mushroom to my quarantine tank for the time being. Need urgent advice on this before my mushroom die. Limpc

If you are driving, you can go to Aramugum Road and park next to Cheng Chwee Road. Parking fee is $1.10 for first hour. Use to be free, damn it. Limpc

Hi Ian, That's fast. Are you working ? 1R. I use chlorofom given by my plastic man. 1RR. Got some to spare ? I understand it is very difficult to buy, control item by the authority 4R) Depending on your tank thickness and if it has a brace. I would just bend 2 strips of plastic to a u shape. Secure oneside to the refugium and just hang it on your tank. 4RR. With the weight of the refugium, can the strips tahan or not? You use chlorofom to glue the plastic clips to the OFB? BTW, how you bend the plastic ? Will be waiting for your drawing. Thanks, Ian. Limpc

This is a following up on a post by fairywrasse and Ian. I'm exploring the possibility of DIY a hang on refugium incorporating Ian's OFB. Ian, if you are reading this, here are some questions: 1. How do you glue the acrylic together ? 2. If using your OFB idea, could you throw some light on a possible refugium design 3. What would be the return pump capacity ? 4. how is the clip secure to your outside overflow box ? I will also try to sketch some idea while flying to India tomorrow. thanks in advance Limpc

Hi fairywrasse, wedgee, Are you one of those who does not have the luxury of sump just like me ? I was also thinking of buying that thing from oversea but I would like to explore the possibility of DIY since Ian (master of DIY) has kindly offered to share with us his experience. I'm sure it would be a lot cheaper and fun to DIY. Ian, gonna start a thread soon before AT blacklist us for being a bad citizen of SRC. Limpc

Hi Ian, Nice DIY you have. But before we continue, AT will hantam us for discussion on DIY projects in the wrong thread. Soli lah AT, can you shift this to the DIY section. Back to this DIY, Ian can show us your concept ? BTW, how did you glue the acrylic together ? The best adhesive is Chroloform (spelling?) but it is controlled and not so easily available. Wonder if we can meet up to discuss your DIY ? Drink on me. Limpc

saw one in Downtown East fish shop. About $850. I think it's Ecosystem. I'm also looking or thinking of DIY one since I do not have a sump. If you have found some lobang please share with me. Limpc

Thanks, guys. So I can forget about this for the time being (Heng Ah) until my setup has reach the stage where I can explore into the hard ones. Limpc

read so many threads on Calcium reactor. Is this needed if I only have soft coral ? Limpc

if I'm not wrong, yes it is. Limpc

Just garlic juice, dude. Limpc

Cedric, How's the nitrate level ? Show me some pictures, can ? Tanzy, Constipated ? More like my brain cells constipate. Since I'm using an existing furniture to hold my tank, there is not enough room to incorporate a sump/refugium. But I'm still exploring possibility of modifying this stand but there would be a massive change. One question though. If a sump is inside a cabinet, would the evaporated water cause any damage to the wood ? Limpc Ps: Gotta go toilet now, see ya.

Sigh .... no further idea today. Will try again tomorrow. Limpc
