Hi all, discover a number of this creatures crawling on the walls of my main tank. (Please see attached picture). On further investigation found more of this on a Sea mat which I bought weeks ago. Immediately isolate this sea mat from my main tank. Seen this before ? Is this flatworm. Looks like a baby nudibranch. It's body has got some soft spikes. Any comments please. Limpc

Hi Ari, How much is Purigen ? Which LFS you can recommend ? Btw, since you have used many Seachem products b4, for high nitrate problem, would you recommend Purigen or De*nitrator ? Thanks in advance Limpc

Ian, I'm impressed. You always have simple idea but more importantly it works. Happy New Year. Limpc

Hi, I have a translucent pipe from a powerhead to skimmer. As you can imagine thro' time, the pipe will be clogged with algae. Periodically, I will "flush" the pipe to remove all visible waste. Would it help if I were to replace the translucent pipe with a opaque one so that no light can penetrate to sustain the growth of the algae ? Thanks for any advise. Gong Xi Fa Cai Limpc

How often u change the filter wool? or never?
Limpc replied to souphamster's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
I wash the filter wool on every water change. Not with tap water but with the water I siphoned from the tank. This is to preserve as much bacteria as possible. As for replacement, I will do this in phase, meaning replace one at a time during water change and not all at once. Limpc -
Hi, AZNO3 is not AZOO product. Got this wrong impression previously too. It is white bottle with black printing. Limpc

Good tips, guys. Thanks Limpc

Hi, I'm just dosing with Iodine and of course photosynthesis. So far so good. I have a Xenia and is branching very well. Yesterday, while cleaning my tank, I realise that there is now a branch growing on a nearby liverock. Read more about the food requirement. Some softies totally do not take any food except from photosynthesis. Limpc

Well, this is one option which I'm considering too. What I am trying to doing is to connect the output of a powerhead to my skimmer. If I were to have elbows/coupling would the water flow be restricted and reduces the effectiveness of the skimmer ? The original pipe comes with this skimmer (SeaClone) is one piece bent to shape. Thanks for your advice. Limpc

Hi Spade, Got to do this quietly then. Have you tried to bend a 'U' shape ? Thanks, Limpc

Hi, I'm have similar setup and of course same set of problem on Nitrate. For temp measure, I'm changing water, dosing with AZ-NO3. Have been doing this for almost 3 weeks, the level is coming down, last measured 20ppm. For perm measure, I'm incorporating a refugium with DSB and hope to get it up before CNY. Take a look at DIY thread for some of my posts. Happy New Year. Limpc

Hi all, Has anyone done the above before ? I'm referring to those clear plastic pipes which you can find in LFS. Please share with me your experience if you have done so. Thanks Limpc
-
Hi guys, Just send my design for fabrication today. Will be collecting this saturday or monday. Surely will post a picture for your reference. Limpc

Hi Ian, Would the return pipe cause a siphoning effect ? I have more or less decided to build a refugium, but not as a hangon type. It would be made of glass (guess it is cheaper than acrylic) and will be located next to my main tank sitting on the same platform. Input to fuge will be from my hangon skimmer and output will be your idea. I'm finalising the dimension by tonight and will visit the Kelantan Lane shop to custom build it within these few days. Here's how it will look like .... .... oops how do I post picture now! AT HELP !!! Limpc

Instead of nuking of flatworm, all SRC members will be invited for feasting of chilli crabs. Limpc

Tanzy, That's very consoling. At least my pocket will not be burnt. Limpc.

Hi guys, The prices really scare the shit out of me, man. Is there any particular type of sand to look out for, not just the size, but the type, eg coral sand, etc ? In the worst, would a #1 be sufficient ? Limpc
-
Hi Hon, Tanzy, So, is it $150 for 5 kgs or 13.6 kgs ? Anyway, will check it out in sealife. Is this consider as livesand ? Thanks, guys. Limpc
-
Hi Tanzy, Your reply is always very prompt at this time of the day. How's life there ? How heavy is that pack in sealife ? Thanks, Limpc

Hi all, For a good and effective DSB, would #1 sand be good enough ? I heard from some members that there are sugar fine sand available. Where ? and how much ? I saw in a LFS, there is something call riversand (sugar fine), would this be a good DSB ? Any advice please. Limpc

Hi, Check out this link .... http://www.geocities.com/bigreefproject/TopOff.html Neat idea. Really using science to implement this idea. No electricity involved. Limpc

Hi Ian, Incidentally, I raised the same question to the author of that DIY and surprising he replied. He said in his email that he has changed his design to be intake by pump and return by gravity, just like what you suggested. Requested him to send me a picture for my understanding. One question regarding returning by gravity, wouldn't the water flow caused lots of bubbles and splashes ? Any idea to kerb this. I hope I can firm up my mind and get all material needed b4 CNY cos' I got a long break during that time. Limpc
