  1. What's the proper name or model no ah? Don't want to go to the shop sounding like an idiot by keep repearing the word "box"... hehe.. thanks!
  2. I remember seeing the bosses tank shot, seems like it had a piece of plywood supporting it... I too am weary of the external overflow... seems like a big risk to leave it cantilevering out without any support whatsoever...
  3. Huh... then won't there be temperature fluctuations? Also, at night won't it be cooler already? Coz I have the same problem, last time I turned on the aircon was like in 1+ years ago maybe more.... because I was afriad of a temp drop in the tank
  4. Oh! so I don't need to keep stirring the kalk? Once in 3 days is enough? Also, if the water in is at too high a pressure, would it cause the kalk settled at the bottom to stir up too much? And, how to make sure that the water from the mixing chamber does not reverse can go back into the water reservoir?
  5. Hi guys, I've been reading about DIY Neilson kalkreactors hooked up to auto-top ups, what I don't understand, and what most of the websites i've seen fail to explain, is: 1. Where exactly does the water come in? (top or bottom of chamber) 2. Is the stirrer turned on 24hrs a day? 3. If not, how do you make sure that when the stirrier is turned on, the dosing pump isn't turned on? 4. Which direction is the pump pumping? 5. How to make sure that the soln in the chamber does not siphon back to the auto top-up reservoir? I've included a simple diagram, please see if I'm correct in my assumptions... Thanks! Ervine
  6. Huh? So that the tank won't look like it has a box inside it? For me I'm not looking at cabinet... not too sure about freewill
  7. Oh okay i think i get it now.. I'm looking at closed loop actually...
  8. I will try to scan a copy for you... but might not be so soon, coz the card is at home and i'm in hall... and scanners here, card is there... aiyah anyway will try lah...
  9. Hi guys, I can't seem to find the thread on the electric box anymore, can someone enlighten me on it? I know it's bought from some shop in Kelantan Road but not sure which one and not sure how much it costs.. It would be best if someone could share some schemetics to make things clearer... Also, can I wire by existing timers instead of buying the hager timers? Thanks a bunch! Ervine Lin
  10. I was speaking to freewill about the 2' cube as well... What do you guys think about an external overflow box? Will it cost a lot more to make? For me I'm thinking of a single return going at 5000l/h but split into 2 or 3 outputs... 1.5" input pipe, 2" drain
  11. Ouch... so ex? Hm.... okay I will look into it... thanks for the help guys!! Oh what about the steel cables??
  12. Hey it really DOES look like Jackie Chan's nose!!!
  13. MAKE a metal box?? Wah.... Must go back to secondary school look for my D&T teacher.. haha...
  14. hm.. So where can I get one of em metal boxes? SLT can find?
  15. Hi guys, Regarding the ballast and ignitor for MHs, can I house them in one of those black hobby boxes from Sim Lim? What I'm afraid of is that the heat will melt the plastic box... Also, where can I find those steel cables I see people using to hang their MH lights from the ceiling, and if they are metallic do I need to rust protect them? Thanks a bunch!! Ervine
  16. Is that a haliea 6550? Or rather dual haliea 6550s? And BTW, that's a REALLY REALLY HUGE tank u have!! Have fun stocking it up!!
  17. Hm... I went to re-read some articles, anyway it's supposed to be a closed loop at the top, to equalise the pressure or something... Aiyah not sure leh... a lot of different opinions out there, I guess I have to just try it out myself to find out.. thanks!!
  18. I used contraphos... curbed the algae's growth but somehow some red furry algae is taking it's place... crap
  19. Hi guys, While i'm working on upgrading my tank, I'm pondering the idea of having a single lionfish within a reef tank. Is that possible or advisable (okay probably not advisable)... since I might be going into SPS, I'm looking at high flowrates but I read that they are not particularly quick on their fins.... Also, they eat and poo a lot... but it should be fine as long as I keep only 1 fish... maybe a backup crew... Any guys with lionfish experience? Thanks! Ervine...
  20. They give me the creeps... rather have a lawnmower belnny..
  21. Actually it depends on how much light exactly is getting to the clam... a very shallow tank with PL lights might be better for the clam than an excessively deep tank with MH... Since most people have tank depths >1ft, thus it is widely believed that only MH or T5s can penetrate deep enough to supply the clam with enough light... I too have kept a clam for quite a long time with only 36W PL, but of course it was 6" away from the light source..
  22. hm... i wonder if it is too strong too.. but then considering streams run at 6000 to 12000 l/h.... my 1.5k is peanuts... Of course their flow is more "spread" out... but I'm trying to get that too... perhaps 1" output pipes? not too sure... should have taken up fluid mechanics module... darn..
