  1. Next, using the black insulated wire, I took out the inner cores leaving behind the nice PVC black lining which I used to line the blow hole... Attached one securely with super glue gel...
  2. Hi guys, I see there have been a lot of people interested in getting the 250W fixture from Viclite from my other post... Anyway, I was one of those who went to get it, but I was not comfortable with it's weight and lack of a fan, so I've DIY-ed an external control box as well as cut a hole for an AC fan... here's how I did it... 1. Went to Sim Lim Tower to get the stuff I needed - AC fan (I already had one) - $12 - AC fan power cord (please buy, damn leh chey to DIY) - $1 - $2 - Cloth insulated wire - $1/m - Wire connector thing - $1.20 - Metal box - $12.50 bought from neighbour hood hardware store - Black insulated wire - $0.4/m (for blowhole) - Super Glue Gel - $3.80 - Screw, nuts, washers - $2 Other stuff that I needed like the wire cutters, drills etc I already have them so didn't buy... So here's what I did, firstly I emptied out the inards of the current housing, took out everything from the E40 holder to the reflector and of course all the control gear.. I then measured the size of the blowhole required and the locations of the screws required for the fan... then it was off to the workshop to drill a hole... Here's what it looks like..
  3. I tot there was someone who did a DIY PVC pipe thing that sat on his eurobrace that held up his MH??
  4. 250W single ended does not mean that you divide the effective wattage by half... it just means it's attached on differently, that means it's still 250W... I have not run the fixture yet as I'm still waiting for Edmund's bulb to get in (stares at Edmund)... so can't help you there... I will NOT be replacing it with an e-ballast, but I will be isolating the control gear.. check out my "case mod" posting soon!...
  5. That's my biggest headache now... thinking of a DIY PVC stand kind of thing... leh chey...
  6. They are not spider reflectors... but otherwise parabolic in nature (i think)... Go check out the website in my first post might have a fixture with the rx7 socket...
  7. Aiyah why u never sell this earlier? Might have gotten from you instead... oh well
  8. Yup... 10 bucks more than Edmund's bulk order for the BLV 250W 10k bulb...
  9. Whole thing less the power cable into the set and the stand or cable ties loh.... that's the only DIY really required, although I prefer to include a fan and all... Not convenient to reveal it or not convenient to get to? It's just a short walk from aljunid MRT.... Well good things must share share....
  10. I'm thinking (actually started on) building a DIY kalk reactor... so the initial cost is still considerably low ($40??) but not sure if it'll turn out well yet... will keep u guys updated
  11. Oh... IMPT... please note that I HAVE NOT tried this with the bulb in place... so not 100% sure if it will work, but I don't see why it won't lah!.. If you want to know, it's 2ft long, about 1 ft wide and about 0.6 feet high... VERY big if you ask me.... but mainly it's because of the control gear compartment lah... and like "untouchables" mentioned, yup I don't think it's electronic... heh... sorry for that.
  12. All in all, except for it's size and weight I think it's a pretty decent buy... now to DIY a blowhole, shift the control gear externally and wait for Edmund to pass me my bulb and I'll be done! Oh.. forgot to mention that this is for a 250W MH.... Also, not many pieces left... so those who want can give the company a call to make sure u don't lose out or anything...
  13. Lastly we have the tempered glass... although SE bulbs are UV filtered, I think the glass is good to allow for spash protection... The reflector is very shiny aluminium protected by a plastic covering...
  14. The capacitor... with capacitor holder too... Capacitor made in UK
  15. Now we have the ignitor... (also note that all parts are attached onto the revolving metal plate, but can be detached if required) Made in australia
  16. Here's a look at the individual components, firstly the ballast... I think it's an electronic one... not too sure Australian made... (also not that I realised all the wires are thermally insulated not with PVC but rather that cloth like material)
  17. Here's a view of the control gear inside... all the wiring done up less the one from the mains... I'm probably going to remove this and change it to an external box... because it REALLY weighs a ton!!!
  18. The previous post is the top of the casing, with ample holes for attaching cables, and a hole for the wire to come out... Below is a picture of the bottom view of the casing, notice the area at the back is for the control gear, it's vented but I'm probably going to DIY a fan at closer side to cool the bulb further...
  19. Well since no one replied me, I went to figure things out myself... Here's what I found out... Chua Huat Lighting, control gear WITHOUT E40 socket $60 Eye Lighting, didn't get back to me So in the end I went searching a little longer and found this.. Viclite Check out the top left hand corner one.. that's the one I got.. $75 ($78 with GST) without bulb... Considering $60 is not only just the parts but also without E40 socket and without a proper casing and reflector... So I went ahead with it, friendly boss too!... here's what it looks like after I got it back... Before I go on, do take note that this thing is HEAVY and VERY BIG!! So do take note of this... the ballast is the thing that weighs a ton...
  20. These are digital or analog timers??
  21. But Kelantan Lane don make SS or wooden stands leh...
  22. Hi guys, I know of both Eye lighting and Chuan Huat Lighting House, but they are a little too out of the way for a person without a car like myself... I basically need only the ballast, capacitor, ignitor and holder... Thanks!
  23. Thanks! but what's the contactor for? Also, the box, is there a particular brand?
  24. Never trust store tanks.... everything always looks so fresh, so new... but yet everytime u go something changes... (throw out dying coral put in new one??) Besides, we are looking at long term tanks...
