  1. Hi guys, As usual I'm scrimping and saving once again.. I refused to pay $140 for a disgusting looking wrought iron stand, and $180 for a custom made chengal wood one... so I decided to make one by myself... and the total cost added up to about $70 bucks? Not too sure how to calculate also coz some of the materials I salvaged... but the chengal wood alone is $40+... Materials are as follows: 1) Chengal Wood 2"x2" and 2"x3" 2) 9mm plywood 3) Hexscrews 4) 3" wood screws 5) L-brackets 6) power tools (jigsaw, drill, etc) 7) chisel & hammer 8) polyurethane varnish 9) finishing varnish 10) sand paper & files 11) Acrylic sealant (er.. this one big question mark) Basically I followed some online websites and relied on my experience in woodworking (er... very little actually) and some good old sweat and blood... So here's my baby all varnished and waiting to dry...
  2. Er.. is coralline algae necessarily good? It's really quite irriating when it starts encompassing almost everythign in sight
  3. nice!! Can see the colours of the coral are more intense with the MH... Nice hood also!! Should really look into doing one for myself.. since I already did up my DIY stand...
  4. unfortunately, sound travels thru air (most commonly) thus a sound proof cabinet would be airtight, which means ventilation is zero, which means bad for the chiller... so I think it won't work
  5. I think ur chiller is too small for your tank.. that's why
  6. Oh that's easy what, just connect a dosing pump running on a timer to pump in your tanks saltwater to the reactor, which will then force the plankton out. But need to filter the water being pumped into the reactor somehow...
  7. Hm... but why would there be an ammonia increase if I bring over my existing LR?
  8. Ah crap.. din bookmark it... anyway very easy to find lah, just go www.google.com search for DIY plankton reactor or was it a search from reef central... one of them lah...
  9. What other phones are recommended huh?
  10. Eh actually I just went to read up a little more, seems pretty easy... the Aquamedic one... something like a kalkreactor, but with light...
  11. Hm... maybe I didn't phrase it correctly.. Basically what I am asking is this, do I have to run both tanks concurrently (not connected) so that the new tank can get cycled until the livestock in the old tank is ready to be moved over? Or can I dump everything over LR, sand everything over at one shot? (I doubt it right)
  12. Yah I can't seem to get any info on this, eg how it works etc... heard it can last for a long time before a recharge is required...
  13. EEEks... I still cannot stand the thought of feeding the shrimp a starfish...
  14. I see I see... okay so that means I still need to run both tanks concurrently until the new one is completely cycled yes?
  15. Hi guys, I'll finally be getting my new tank this Friday, but the migration is going to be a big headache... Anyway, If I were to seed my new tank with sand from my existing tank, in addition plumb it to my current refugium and use my existing LR... Then, would the cycling time be shortened? Thanks!
  16. Huh $700 is still ex leh... hehe.. student budget.. sigh
  17. Hm.. i believe that a firmware upgrade will solve the lag... at least that's why my friend told me.. But it's true that the cam sucks...
  18. The other day black cat, now black & white furniture... u looking at some kind of creepy zen look? Hehhee...
  19. Yah mine changes colour also.. i think it's trying to blend in with the background
  20. GASP!! I've been there looking for it but didn't find anything!! What's it known as here?
  21. Same.. instant foam, and likewise spilled over onto my floor
  22. Probably yes... Oh yah sorry make the beckett injector chamber... beckett injector have to buy, unless you are willing to bring it in from the US, you can pretty much forget about getting it in Singapore, I've looked around but have not found any.. unless someone has seen it?
  23. From the way you posted the question I think you have no idea what you are talking about right? Basically you don't just INSTALL a beckett injector, you probably have to make one... go search in Reef Central, lots of people do it there... BUT... the beckett is not available in Singapore, last I checked...
