I think some people claim it will prolong your bulb's lifespan...

I see i see.... I go test my kH now... maybe it got depleted...
-
Oh.. higher KH.. interesting... any particular reason behind this?

Hi guys.. Even when I had my weipro my skimmer never really foamed much... now that I've upgraded to my DIY skimmer the same thing is happening... The only time it DID foam was when I scrapped the algae off the glass... or when I added dechlorinator... So what is it that causes the skimmer to foam then? Is it a bad sign when my skimmer doesn't foam or do I just have to wait for it to break in more... but then my old skimmer didn't really foam either... Thanks.. Ervine

Think can just buy those circular cutters right? Oh but might need a drill press... hehe... I have access to drill press (in school) but no circular cutter though...

ok hopefully mine also will recover...

How to prevent microbubbles from entering tank
ervine replied to ervine's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Hm.. the stocking not very good idea... has been trapping solid items which I rather have the skimmer take out.. shucks... -
never liked curved tanks... always distort images... Just went to underwater world the other day... had a big huge curved tank at the entrance... nice geometry but quite irritating if you ask me... same goes for bow tanks...

How to prevent microbubbles from entering tank
ervine replied to ervine's topic in General Reefkeeping_
managed to stop the bubbles from the tank return and skimmer return... added a stocking over the return.. it traps all the bubbles.. But now it's my stupid skimmer pump which is causing micro bubbles... argh... -
saw some at reborn but not very nice specimens...

How to prevent microbubbles from entering tank
ervine replied to ervine's topic in General Reefkeeping_
I see i see... okay might try that out... BTW... i found out a another reason for the microbubbles... my skimmer pump is "leaking" microbubbles!!! ARGH!!!... these pesky little things get through even the sponge I put in the sump!!... Shucks... -
Oh 1200l/h only? Damn... BTW, I suspect that my chiller is not running very effeciently... impossible that my lights are off and it still turns on every 15mins.... Do you happen to be able to service the chiller? Thanks, Ervine

How to prevent microbubbles from entering tank

Hm... i think my durso is at it's maximum capacity liaos... the water level in the overflow is almost covering the PVC Tee of the durso... Going to try out my other method now -
off topic a little but you can put ur DT bottle in the compartments on your fridge door instead of somewhere further in... in this way everytime someone opens the fridge door it'll shake the bottle a little...

How to prevent microbubbles from entering tank
ervine replied to ervine's topic in General Reefkeeping_
sigh.. tried that.. but the problem is my sump (which was designed for my old tank) can barely handle the 5000l/h pouring through the first compartment... so when I placed the sponge between the openings which interfered with the water flow, the water level in that compartment rose till it started to overflow into the adjacent one... nevermind... I'm trying another method I learnt from reefcentral.. will post if it works... -
Wow... looks pretty different from what we usually see here...
-
i think this was discussed before... but don't remember what was the outcome....

Hi guys.. My overflow is now handling around 5000l/h... so at the the sump side there's a huge gush of water and air coming out along with the water return from my skimmer which is also causing bubbles to form... While the big bubbles never leave the sump, the tiny microbubbles somehow can find their way to the return pump and up to the main tank... very vexing.... Any advice? Thanks.. Ervine

Hi guys... While my original setup would not flood during a blackout, after adding my external skimmer and chiller, it's almost 100% confirmed that a blackout will cause my sump to overflow.... As my sump is really tiny (1.5ftx1ftx1ft) it can't really hold a great deal of water... I was wondering if there's any good sources for check valves or something that can be easily adapted to hoses to prevent backflow from happening... Please advise... Thanks, Ervine

Hi guys... I'm using a Resun Cl450 on my 55gal/200+litre tank for the first time... which means my chiller is actually overrated... pushing the water through with an atman 104 (2000l/h) at a height of about 1.2m... The thing is... the chiller seems to have little impact on the water temperature.. it brought it down by about 1 degree then after which there was little noticeable difference in the temperature of the water.... Is it cos it's the first time I'm running the chiller therefore it takes longer for the temp to drop down? Thanks.. Ervine BTW any ideas how to silence the old resun chillers?? its like an airport here in my bedroom!! sigh the price I pay to be thrifty in this hobby

Can but no point if you want to use it for ALL your LR.. it'll just get too darn expensive... Better to use those kneadable kind... not those fluid types IMHO.... most brands are fine.. also depending on your usage can go for either 5min quick dry or extended period drying...

Hi guys.. Have a maze brain of which a small portion was in the shadows for some time and as such has begun to turn white. The brown ridge portions are white but the middle lime green is still there. I've tilted it such that the white areas are getting light as well now... the thing now is... is it too late for the brain to recover? Thanks.. Ervine

Yes it's supposed to save you some money by running the MH more efficiently... but I can't back them up with any hard facts... it's just on what I've read...
