huh that will defeat the purpose.. i want my skimmer to take out the waste, either that or my fuge... not trap it in the foam.. Just that I'm worried that the fuge will become over clogged with rotting materials which bypassed the skimmer

Huh no it's not... kalk reactors work only when water levels dip below a certain level which activate the auto-top up which then pushes water back into the tank... But the kalk reactor does not simply dump all the water at one shot what... it flows rather slowly... and depending on where you place your float switch it'll dose a different amount each time.. For me I think each time it drips about 250ml only... furthermore, I don't know of people who use an overrated pump dose the kalk... so I still think it's not the same as pouring.. but then again, it really depends on your tank capacity.. dosing 1litre of kalk solution in a 10gal tank is completely different from dosing 1litre of kalk in a 100gal tank...

Hm... anyone knows why my skimmer foams like mad at times then cuts down to a dribble at other times? Seems like whenever I meddle with the tank, eg. put my hand in to rearrange something, the foam dissapears... then reappears a while later...

Hi guys.. I've been contemplating wheter or not to forgo filter foam altogether... the reason I still have it in my sump is so that I can: 1. Trap bubbles preventing them from entering the fuge and subsequently the return (this cannot even be resolved since the microbubbles simply go right through the foam.. so it's no longer an issue to me..) 2. Trap solids to prevent them from entering into the fuge The thing is... should I use filter foam to trap the solids entering my sump and subsequently replace the foam regularly, or should I just let the solids which went past the skimmer to enter the fuge? What I'm afraid is that the solids will be trapped in the fuge and start to decay there, which might cause the fuge to accumulate quite a bit of waste after a while... will this happen? So which is the better option, let the foam remove the solids or risk trapping solids in the fuge? Thanks.. Ervine
