Do bubbles really need to be fed?
-
5x400W... OMG!!! that's like an electric sun over ur tank!
-
I'm running it with an atman 104, 1800l/h... Depending on the height of your chiller the irda might be enought... otherwise just tee off from your return..
-
I used to have my 250W SE with a table fan blowing across the water surface and a smaller fan over the fuge, tank size 55gal, 2.5ftx1.5ftx2ft temp never hit above 30... but then I now have a chiller liao...
-
Haha.. doubt that will work considering the amount of water being pumped through the skimmer body...
-
wah MH 4" away from water? Isn't that a little near??
-
I'm pretty sure PVC can't take the heat.... I've seen someone put a piece of PVC 1" away from a DE bulb to heat it warm enough to mould it... which means it's pretty darn hot...
-
Great work.. and since it's in sump then no worry for any small leakages.. unlike my external one which leaked and thus rendered it useless....

How often to change tank water?
ervine replied to marinehobbist's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
bio load low still change twice a week? -
got sell 250 only?
-
Oh then it's not the same as the tunze lah... tunze uses the fan blades to push the water, this one uses the water to push the fan blades... not the same.... Furthermore if you merely wanted a more diffused flow, just saw off the output tube of your maxijet... I think someone here has done it with good results, as have many other people in RC...
-
and how does that work?
-
I'll take it!
-
Well.. I'm taking the FBR out of commission.. it's leaking... apparently the stupid locking system is not tight enough to completely form a watertight seal around the lid of the container, especially under internal pressure... It's dripping one drop per 10secs... which in one day will be a puddle... So for you folks out there who want to try this.. DON'T!... Sigh... back to the drawing board...
-
wow that was fast!
-
looks messy man... well as long as it works...
-
Anyway.. here's the DIY FBR in action... notice the sealant used at the top, I think because the lid isn't originally flat, the O-rings can't form a proper seal, thus the need for the sealant... I also raised the FBR off the ground with a container (a spare lock & lock.. hehe) coz it was a little too short... I raised the foam in the container using 2 pieces of PVC... not the best to use but it was the only thing I found lying around.. well as long as it works... Wanted to buy another bottle of phosguard but eaquanature was out of stock.. darn

Strange... the buttons seem to have perked up again (but still not as "blooming" as before)... GSPs all open again... wonder what happened...

typrobin: Someone asked to see mah.. so I show lor... auberon: Can't see the bubbles in the skimmer nevermind lah... can see the skimmate can liao (which isn't a lot actually... need to upgrade the pump.. shucks) It's not a nano.. 55gals... 2.5ftx1.5ftx2ft... 200 over litres, I think can classify as a small to medium tank... definitely not nano...
-
depends on the chiller! My resun 450 (old model) is 1000 times louder than my fans... (I still keep my fans on by the way..)
-
-
That sort of IS the front view actually... I view it from this angle... makes the tank look deeper... here's a view of some of my DIY stuff
-
Hm... but my clams at the same level are doing fine leh (other side of tank)... shucks...
-
Glad the response is quite good.. hehe... Tyrobin is right, should suspend the media slightly, which I intend to do with just filter foam (the more porous kind) maybe egg crate but I ran out liao... and yup I'm super budget reefer.. sigh.. sad but no choice... so have to DIY almost everything... So far my list of DIY stuff include: 1. Tank stand (Chengal Wood) 2. MH stand (PVC) 3. MH external ballast 4. Modded viclite MH hood (added fan) 5. Semi DIY Sump 6. Needlewheel skimmer (still need some money to get a better pump) 7. Auto-top up (air driven) 8. Kalkreactor 9. Fluidised reactor AT: Aiyah, if I can afford the professional stuff I also go buy liao loh... haha... Auberon: yup, I think can... I thought of that actually but din bother to do it lah... wanted to use one for carbon... A word of caution though... tupperware is NOT meant to withstand internal hydrostatic pressure... it leaks very easily once pressure builds up in the container, even with the seals and all... even if it says it's 100% waterproof... So take heed... the cheapo way is cheap, but it has it's risks... Anyway a bit out of topic but here's a look at my tank now... not too bad for DIY lah...

Yah testing was done before I added my buffer... now 10dkh... usually dips down to 6 by the end of the week (which is when I tested)... Well anyway... strangely the zoos are fine, a small colony of buttons looks normal, but one colony of GSP and my buttons still look like they are dying.. today looks SLIGHTLY better but still.... Here's a pic of them.. the space in the middle used to be occupied by the buttons... sigh... The arrow is pointing to a neighbouring healthy colony...
