How do u prevent fishes from going into overflow??
ervine replied to ervine's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Ahhh.. good idea.. will go hunt for some later... -
I heard that before too.. but I guess if you change your water frequently it should be able to conter balance the Mg shortage?
-
bish... reserved again...
-
mine kept shifting itself.. shift shift shift then suddenly it died... donno why also could be other reasons perhaps
-
yeah I read that too but the thing is some hair algae has grown over the base of the colony (sigh, neglect on my part)... Hm.. maybe I try to clear the algae up first and wait a while longer see how.. coz the tips are doing quite well nowadays... If I frag just one branch shouldn't be too much damage done to the mother colony right?

The Amazing Dissapearing Firefishes
ervine replied to ervine's topic in FOWLR (Fish-only with Live-rock)
well.. I have searched for them high and low, observed the tank for several days and nights at a go... no news that they are still alive, feeding time also never come out, so presume that they died... maybe jumped out of tank only to be found months later (had this experience before in my FW tank). As for removing them, well if you can't find them how are you going to remove them?? If they REALLY died you'll probably never find their body, would have been eaten by the worms, crabs, other fishes etc... some more firefish so small want to find the carcass also difficult... please do not think that I buy fishes to "test the water" of my tank coz I made sure that the water conditions are more than adequate before purchasing them.. besides, i'm not the only one who has firefishes going MIA on them... -

Sigh.. added a pair of purple firefishes also MIA... some more purples so much more ex than normal ones... Normal ones come out during feeding time, purple ones still cannot find, I see 1 hiding the other donno where... -

Hi guys, I already have eggcrate glued down on the perimeter of my internal overflow but yet this is the 3rd time I had to bend over to get a fish out of there... don't know how they got in also... either they slipped thru the eggcrate or they jumped over it... Any ideas? Ervine

Ah great... thanks!! Wish me luck!! May all the frags survive...

huh.. u put together with ur LR, once the coraline algae grow over everything all camoflage liao woh... If you DIE DIE DIE want to remove then u need to get a sharp pair of scissors, slowly snip away the threads that bind the clam to the rock, then slowly let the clam settle in it's new position. but if you ask me I rather not take that risk...
-
If you want the clam to be on LR then why u remove the LR from the clam in the first place? haha...
-
button ah.. button I put at medium flow to low flow... hammer I put at higher flow area... highest flow area reserved for SPS (erm.. only 1 colony)
-
Hi guys, I've given up hope on my (only) SPS colony ever recovering from STN... the healthy branches are doing well, even splitting into new branches, but the base is basically a skeleton and has even been overcome by algae... So the decision now is to frag it into several pieces, stick them down to loose rubble then wait... after they stabalize then maybe I trade off a few away.. Thing is I can't remember if I should snip off the branches above or below the STN line... anyone can help? Thanks! Ervine

wah a lot of questions ah... firstly DO NOT pull a clam from it's rock! If you want it to rest on your sand bed just bury the rock in the sand lah... if you pull the clam away from the rock it will most likely damage if not kill the clam. It's like uprooting a tree.. Gapping mouths a lot of reasons lah... could be just the clam sick, could be water conditions, could be anything... no particular lack of something or whatever... Golden pearls (the smallest ones) are meant as a replacement to live phyto, but IMHO it's not a perfect replacement... but then live phyto quite hard to keep for long... for clams.. not sure leh... hard to tell if they know the differnece between GPs and live phyto or even if they take the GPs...

Hm.. seeing that the eggs are poisionous, won't scrapping them possibly realease the poision?

Firefish tail broken/torn...
ervine replied to ervine's topic in Disease treatment/parasite/pest control
Agressive ah.. hm.. Got one old false clown (but he only bothers the lawnmower blenny) Other firefishes One pseudo chromis (but also seems to live in a world of it's own) Lawnmower (only bothers the clown) Yup that's all I have.. according to what you say I suspect it's either the other firefishes or crabs... Hm... -
Hi guys, I have a few firefishes in my tank and I noticed that 1 or 2 (not sure coz they hardly ever come out at the same time) have broken/torn tails.. Any idea what's wrong? All the other fishes look fine... could it just be bullying? Thanks! Ervine

huh you washed the sump? What for... unless there's a lot of detrius inside it or decaying matter... if not then most of the NO3 won't be "washed out"... Strange that you say the sump stinks though... shouldn't have any bad smell other than the usual salt water/fishy smell
-
feed the fishes? (or are the eggs poisionous)

setting up images are just as interesting.. hehe..
