  1. haha.. din realise this was in the DIY forum.. hehe
  2. You can try the shops around kelantan lane... bought a large translucent (non-military) jerry can there some time ago...
  3. You can.. but it was later discussed that because mangroves grow so slowly the nutrients exported by them is likewise slow... as such you need several mangroves to be effective which makes it rather inappropriate because the mangroves can get quite big... thought about it as well but in the end I using normal macroalgae, at least can see it growing over time... in fact I have to prune every week... BTW, Singapore got lots of mangrove swamps just go collect the pods if you wanna try it out
  4. lemme guess.. weekend no more air-con, tank heats up then bye bye clowns?
  5. 2" diameter shell is BIG for a hermit! My hermits are at most 1.5cm... well dwarf hermits actually...
  6. Mortar's the thing that goes between the bricks to "glue" them together... Also if you are thinking of laying your own bricks, trust me get someone to do it for you... I've tried laying bricks before and it looks a lot easier that it really is...
  7. need to be a little careful with concrete/brick.. probably need to lay it with the proper type of mortar that can withstand saltspray... also need to get the concrete/brick mortar to cure properly first before putting the tank down... But other than that I guess it should be fine, pretty rock solid (literally). I've seen some people use concrete blocks as well... just that concrete/brick require so much more space than a thin legged steel or wooden stand...
  8. My 2.5x1.5x2 I using 10mm glass... so I guess 3ft should do the same bah...
  9. Hm.. if 18" then you are left with <1ft for maintenance... might be tricky at times.... but then 12" also a wee bit low for a sump.. but then that's what I have lah...
  10. Hm.. strange jointing for the chengal stand.... think i've seen it done like that before somewhere.. well in anycase, even stainless steel will rust after time... but if treated properly can last as long as if not longer than wooden stands... the key is the treatment part...
  11. Hm the mother colony looks a little bare now but otherwise looking good... polyps extending, likewise for the frags... will monitor over the next few months...
  12. Looks damn pro man!!! Congrats!!
  13. huh couple of hundred dollars difference is a lot leh... well at least for me... As for chengal or kapur, I think if you protect your kapur wood properly it should last you quite a while as well...
  14. GOT?? I din see the other day leh... can PM me the price?
  15. actually metal should theoretically be stronger than wood... just that rust can be an issue..
  16. sounds commercial.. but then again none of my business...
  17. are you running athnic lights? I realised when I brought my zoos back that the colours are a lot duller than when I saw them at the shop... I'm running 250W 20k and 2x10k 24W T5s...
  18. Yeah was wondering why the road sign said orchard road was closed tonight... what's going on? some more sunday night...
  19. Woah nice!!! But won't the corals start stinging each other?
  20. Okay got it done at last... The algae was quite stubborn and it had already grown into the very base of the colony, had to snip out a few branches to get to the base to clean it out... might as well, coz I re-planted those branches, hopefully might get a small colony out of them... Thanks guys...
  21. nice birdsnest... haven't seen many around lately..
