  1. Hi guys, After my last bout of algae outbreak I seriously considering getting distilled water from the supermarket to do my water changes. But won't it cost a lot to do that? I mean I change 1 pail of water a week = how many bottles of distilled water? Won't it be more worth it to buy a distiller? Advice anyone? Erv.
  2. i also came back after my 3 week trip to see my tank overrun by some green mosslike algae.. What I did so far was: 1. raise kH values above 8 (i read this in a book at bio-ocean) 2. took all infested rocks out and scrubbed them down OUTSIDE of the tank, rinse them down a little then put them back 3. run carbon in the sump I think about 1 week since i did all these, looks OK so far.. never see the remaining strands of algae explode yet...
  3. HMmm... maybe it's O2 problem... i already raised the rain bar above the water line, and fishes seem to look better already... but those already jialat ones I think I will find them floating tomorrow.. sigh.. Was wondering if it's an ammonia spike for some reason.. too much water changed then chemistry go haywire or something..
  4. Good speculation!.. sounds very logical to me
  5. I think epoxy and superglue (gel or not) are used in different ways.. eg. u try to super glue a huge frag on a vertical surface is impossible... but epoxy might enable you to do so..
  6. new "more fun" way to dose magnesium to ur tank? hehe...
  7. Hi guys, Was wondering if i could get some advice here as well, already posted this is a FW forum... Anyway, several of my fishes suddenly died overnight with a few more looking close to death. Only symptom i see is that their bodies seem to turn white, not spots like ich, just white. When they die almost their whole body is white. This is the 2nd time it occured, the strange thing is the other non-affected fishes have no symptoms whatsoever. Also, at the sides of the fish tank it looks like left over tubifex worms that were vomitted out or something... I did a major water change on sunday, yesterday nothing went wrong, then today disaster struck... Was wondering if it's due to chlorine? I've changed about 70% of the water again.. any other advice? Thanks! Ervine PS: Tank is 2.5m, planted aquarium, fishes - tertras, corys, barbs, 2 discus - tank is abt 5yrs old or more, cannot remember already
  8. i also donno... it never used to do this before then suddenly it took a liking to making holes under my LR...
  9. Huh but it's digging more than just one hole... PS: cute right!
  10. Hi guys, I was wondering why my LR started to have sand on them, I thought it was my maxijet blowing up sand but it turns out my bi-colour pseudo-chromis took a liking to carving out little holes under the LR and dumping the sand onto my other LR and corals... Never happened before but suddenly like that... Any idea why or how to stop it? Thanks! Ervine
  11. Me also din make it down.. saturday caught up with work then sunday rain like donno what like that... glad it looks like it was a success.. kudos to AT and gang...
  12. what's the difference between pulling off by hand and ripping off? I also have this in my refugium, been growing non-stop for abt 1 year already.. the only species of macroalgae that seemed to survive in my tank... In any case, i usually just pull off some strands when it starts to get crowded...

  17. i think hermits are not omnivores so they'll eat anything that's left over... as for algae blenny mine likes my flakes more than algae... although I do occassionally see him peck at rocks... snails are always a good choice, wonder how effective they are though...

  19. can try heating the blade up with a lighter then twisting it...
  20. You can solve it by cutting off the fan blades or reducing their angle so that they no longer draw air, just rotate...
