i have a real incident which happened to me many years back.. here goes.. I used to stay in school till quite late and returned home about 11-12pm every night, and every night I would walk past the same turn in the road leading up to my house. Anyway, that particular turn in the road always had problems with the sewerage for some reason and would very often have water seeping out from under the metal covers.. So one fine day (or night) while I was walking towards this bend in the road, there was this very very very distincitive cold breeze which blew past me, mind you this was a completely still night.... the leaves from the trees dropped down and my hairs immediately stood on their ends... just then I already know something wasn't quite right.. but I knew better than to stop and investigate, so I carried on walking as I always did, taking heed not to look behind me... Well that's not the worse part.... On my way home I always walk past this house with a small dog which never once barked at me... NEVER... but that night it was different... it suddenly became super fierce and started barking but not at me... it barked at something/someone BEHIND me.... U can imagine how every single hair on my body stood on its end... Yups... wonder what would have happened if the dog wasn't there... coz I managed to get home in one piece... thankfully... -

how much does a person need to sleep per day?
ervine replied to Lester's topic in General Reefkeeping_
4hrs per day isn't enough i think... especially not over the long run just get about 6-8 hrs per night of restful undisturbed sleep should be fine. I realised that sometimes it's not the length of the slumber but how peaceful it was. So you can try turning off all distractions, eg. handphone, radio, etc... then go to sleep make sure that nobody will disturb you until you are meant to wake up.. For me I always have a lot of dreams which is damn irritating coz I don't feel rested and I wake up as if I just had a really long day -
i won't advise u to use thinner.. never know if you accidentally spill into the tank unknowingly...

tried crumpled up newspaper yet? Army trick.. but the carbon content inside it is supposed to help clean glass

Does camera battery level affect focusing?
ervine replied to blueheaven's topic in General Reefkeeping_
possible but not sure if that's really the reason.. coz AF (autofocus) needs battery power to run the motor, so if battery low it might have a harder time running the motor... -
alamak.. left is 10k lah..

oh wow!! that's damn cool lah!! I thought remote control planes were limited to propeller types!

nvm... i think i will still run the UPS but at the same time upgrade the sump... at least gives me some "buffer time" in case *touch wood* the power should trip again...
-
anyway just an update.. the new UPS works.. but only for 20-30mins.. which means I still need to upgrade the sump...
-
managed to get a free upgrade of the UPS to one with some additional internal components... works perfectly now.. only problem is the UPS can only my chiller return pump and skimmer pump (total abt 150W) for about 20-30mins before it runs out of battery... think i'll just let it run the chiller return only

read it before.. toothpaste is actually abrasive, that's how it cleans ur teeth... so what it does to minor scratches is just "sand" it down till it's smooth... same thing for autosol...

This is a test to determine if you already have a

darn.. too much porno for me already... haha just kidding... -
I looked for it a long time ago.. but couldn't find it either... only ones I found were from the US... In anycase, how deep is the scratch? if it's very minor u can try some autosol (clean metal cream) or some toothpaste even... if it's a major scratch like mine then just live with it...

my bad.... guilty as charged... will start to plan my new sump soon...
-
u know my mum always complains that the floor in my room is "sticky" and she suspects it's coz of the tank.. but frankly I don't feel a thing!
-
nah.. only living thing hurt was me.. 2 cuts & multiple minor electric shocks from the sump light...
-
actually my problem is not aeration.. it's overflowing of sump tank.. Sigh.. I think I might need to get a new sump tank liao... sucks...
-
This makes really good sense!! If reserves can last only 3 years why would the board approve of a 12 mth bonus??

Hi guys, Well.. for those of you who have read my UPS & DC airpump thread would know that today the singapore power guys were supposed to cut the power to my house for 5 hrs. Because stupid me didn't bother to upgrade the sump when I upgraded the tank... so when the power cuts, too much water flows into the sump and as a result a flood will occur... So i wanted to find a way to solve this w/o having to lug home a new sump... Last week I bought a UPS to run a few smaller pumps just to keep the tank going... I figured not only would the sump not flood, i could keep circulation and aeration going... but as it turns out the UPS cannot run the pumps because of some non-pure sine wave crap... now the UPS is basically useless coz it's circuitry got blown or something... Sooooo... i went out to get DC airpumps to keep the tank going and the water that gushes down I decided to siphon it out into a pail instead.... THEN... as Murphy's Law would have it... I fell asleep minutes before the power went out... Luckily I have a flood detecting alarm (bought from DIY shop) and it woke me up but too late already.. mini flood in my room... Sigh... that's just the tip of the iceberg.. then for some reason I got a nasty shock from my sump light... it was leaking electricity for some reason... but turns out it there was some problem with the plug or something like that... Think there were a few other minor fires to fight along the way too... grumble All this trouble just because of poor planning on my part... SIGH...
