Up to you bro.. first convince yourself if you can do it and do it well, then convince your wife... if you are confident go ahead... if not, think about it carefully...

A single tube will cost u $12.50 (Aquaz promotion price) then the ballast I forgot what was it... $30? $40?.. reflectors also... in the end add together might be cheaper than ur PL light even or just a wee bit more ex but with more light output... Also, PLs won't give you the correct colour temperature unless you buy the more expensive PLs which are way too ex IMO...

try reading up on mushroom (sea, not land mushroom) propogation, if I'm not mistaken u can actually force it to split by either chopping it up (messy, I've tried) or using a rubber band tied around the shroom to make it split.. u will be going in the opposite direction which most senior reefers have gone.. most of them discarded their DSB for bare bottoms as new findings have suggested that a DSB while nitrate reducting might be a huge cache for phosphates due to detrius build up... As such they have started to advocate bare bottom tanks in which detrius cannot build up assuming ur circulation is good enough... all nitrate reduction will be done via skimmer/sump...

did you check your laptop/desktop configs properly? I had hell trying to help my gf set up her's coz I didn't know toshiba had their own inbuilt wireless configs which I had to overwrite.. Even after I did that I STILL could not get it to work properly (frequent DC), strange thing is my IBM worked flawlessly at the same distance from the router... Try changing ur channels.... by the way, i also thought the laptop was too far away but the IBM was doing fine... router on ground floor laptop on 2nd floor...

can u add a micron filter before ur DI unit? Heard this will help u save a bit on the DI running out too fast...

oh yeah also depends on how far ur refugium will be from the light source.. mine is like 2-3" away so PLs work fine for me..
