  1. i agree with everything the reefers above mentioned... Anenomes are NOT for beginners, I've been reefing for like 5 years and I still don't dare to try anenomes even with MH and T5s... It's not just lighting, you have to get your water parameters right as well, all of which will need not only experience but also equipment... From some of your other posts it seems that you are on a super tight budget... but please if you cannot afford it then don't try reefing, it really burns a hole in your pocket...
  2. interested in the sump, but can show some photos of it first? Need to know if it can orientate correctly under my stand... Thanks!
  3. 20-30 is VERY cheap for lights used in marine tanks actually... What do you intend to keep? Corals then I don't see your 30 bucks getting u much... if it's FOWLR then anything goes.. u can even use your torchlight...
  4. safe for YOU doesn't mean safe for ur fishes/corals...
  5. i believe pellet guns are illegal... not sure abt accessories though...
  6. no leh... i seem to have an attrition rate.. every few months like 1-2 snails dissapear..
  7. yups, NUS had a competition some time last year or last semester which was to build one of these types of rockets. But so boring, u watch discovery channel they show the american rocket hobbyists using REAL rocket motors... here only allowed to use water/air to propell...
  8. sorry to hear that bro... good luck with ur sales.. maybe can get something from u too...
  9. 7am? I've heard of stalls who start work at 3am!!
  10. doesn't look very shroom like to me leh.. looks like an LPS from the pics.. but then again too blur to know
  11. Huh my sally light foot is super shy.. in fact I don't even know if it is still around or not coz I hardly see it!
  12. mine used to sleep under a LR arch of sorts.. after a while it moved into a hammer coral and now it stays there almost all the time...
  13. actually a bit cheaper I think.. I DIYed mine for $50 bucks?... I did up a schematic many years back... so far so good.. only problem is sometimes the flaot switch gets clogged up with algae and gets stuck... (that's when the backup comes into play)
  14. Mine would be overflow, skimmer, wool, fuge, return...
  15. yup some people have done that before.. but I think if you tie it too tightly it will cause the shroom frag to split where the rubber band is... which might in the end result in shrooms being blown away again
  16. see if u can understand my shoddy diagram... hehe... for the cutting I can't rememeber but I think u are not supposed to slice up the mouth...
  17. actually if I'm not wrong the most common cause of failure is that the sliced up shroom gets blown away by current coz it wasn't secured properly... not that it doesn't make it...
  18. Yups i meant that... haha sorry if I mislead anyone!...
  19. you basically snip it off at it's base, then segment the piece into a few pieces (like a pizza) then stick em back... I've tried it but to limited success...
  20. there is no real ideal... but what I can tell you is to skip the coral chips and bio-balls... they aren't much use in the long run. You are much better off spending your money on a better skimmer... some tanks rely purely on skimming for their filtration. Some people go as far as not to put wool but I find a little wool to trap what the skimmer missed won't hurt, esp if you change it often. Also, you can consider having a refugium, biological filtration using macro algae can help benefit your tank substatially...
  21. Can try letting it stick to some sand grains first (they seem to stick to sand easier than rock) then super glue the sand to the LR... (easier than superglue-ing ric to rock)
