  1. good idea but realistically hard to do... mainly because no person in his right mind will do it for free... that's just the way the world is..
  2. lots of us scrape algae off the glass... it will just become like "dust" and float away to be filtered off or better still eaten by corals, pods or whatever... If you want phosphate/nitrate removal you are better off using macro algae... If you looking at scraping off, one of the favourite tools we reefers use is a credit card (expired of course!) or similar hard card.. I use a plastic ruler... For more "hardcore" algae that has been "baked" onto the glass, you can try using a razor blade, just be careful of your fingers and the glass silicone... If you have just a light coating of algae can buy a magnetic cleaner also.. i use that quite often, don't even have to get my hands wet...
  3. my six-line is one of the most peaceful fishes that I have... never saw it nip on anything before...
  4. eh from where leh? I found out can go sembawang MRT and take 981 but I donno which direction...
  5. Hi guys, Anyone knows how to get to sembawang camp? Like what bus goes there or what? Thanks! Erv.
  6. must be the management thought it would be nice to have a marine tank w/o realising the maintanence cost and time involved...
  7. of course change water lah... not possible to go w/o water changes indefinitely...
  8. cool.. i think my shroom is splitting... i did a wedge shaped cut down to it's mouth and now that wedge is splitting to another shroom I believe... Thanks for the tip bro!
  9. i don't think there's such a thing as a BEST salt... but many reefers including myself have used coralife salt since the very start.. rather economical and dissolves quickly... as for water changes, to be perfectly strict no u should not use tap water straight from the tap, but many of us still do... How much water to change and how often depends on how effective your filtration system is and how heavy is your bio-load...
  10. i'm confused.. why would you need a proper pressure rated canister? You mean the pressure of water from the mains thru the resin chamber is so high?
  11. huh why? mine doesn't dig into the sad at all...
  12. other unseen upgrades over the 2 years include full proofing the auto-top up by adding a 2nd float switch and replacing the air-driven water reservoir to a water pump driven one... also the kalk reactor's mixing pump has been changed twice due to break down of pumps but otherwise still going strong... In terms of circulation, added 1 x sawn off maxijet and a seio 620 running on timers...
  13. here's a view of the insane 16 wall sockets hidden behind the chiller which I recently got done when my mum got increasingly worried about a fire hazard.. (managed to pull out 2 extension cords and 8 multiplugs!!)... btw.. half of the plugs run the computer... also new is a UPS for backup power just in case... (not seen in this foto)
  14. here's a view of the sump and refugium... I've been wanting to upgrade the sump since FOREVER.. somehow never got down to it... grumble...
  15. Here's a look at the lights.. added 2 x T5s...
  16. here's a look at the whole tank now... nothing much has changed actually... except the skimmer and the chiller and the "DIY cover" for the lights...
  17. shucks the remaining bubble seems to be struggling as well... again everything else in the tank looks normal... any ideas??
  18. wah what is all u guys "secret" to downgrading? I suffered damn a lot during NS coz of my shin splints prob due to my flat feet... stupid doctors all say yes u have a problem but ur problem too small to downgrade... wts.. I climb stairs also pain u tell me problem too small... I see chinese sin seh he tell me I better not run anymore, I go engrish one he say bone no damage too bad...
  19. yeah I have 2 banded brittle stars... good scavangers just that they look a bit freaky...
  20. i once had a family of snails appear from nowhere... was quite excited but I believe only 1 made it to adulthood...
