  5. Hi guys, I've ordered my 2.5'x1.5'x2' tank and I was wondering what's a good estimate for how much LR I will need? Just a guide will do so that I don't under or overbuy.. BTW, I will be stacking them on a PVC rack.. Thanks! Ervine

  8. But assuming you know your tank's calcium intake how then can one judge how much kalk to dose?
  9. Hey I just ordered a tank the exact same size!! Anyway your tank (esp sump) looks VERY neat!! good work bro! Oh you are not using a DSB right?

  13. Hi guys, Does anyone know where I can get Chengai Wood 2" by 2" cut to size? Thanks (Funny I could have sworn I already posted this but somehow it didn't appear in the forum)
  14. I don't trust dymax pumps.. mine broke down after just a week or so...
  15. Yah the big ones are damn gross... but they keep out of sight most of the time so I can't really be bothered...
  16. What about hair algae??? Merry Christmas guys, and a Happy New Year..
  17. I repeat once again... DO NOT TRY THIS IF YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT BASIC ELECTRONICS!!! We are not talking about a simple DIY moonlight where the most harm that could happen is a blown LED... DON'T DO IT IF YOU ARE NOT SURE OF WHAT TO DO!!!! Even if it saves you some money..
  18. That depends on a lot of factors.. 1. How big is your tank 2. How much is your calcium intake (I mean your tank's intake) 3. What corals do you keep (related to 2) 4. What is your evaporation rate 5. How much are you willing to spend Etc etc...
  19. Mine must be spoilt... I still see algae around... grumble
  20. Can always mount the ballast seperately... but seriously.. those ballasts run comparatively cool...
  21. Hi mv3i.. those schematics were drawn by me actually.. glad to know someone kept it... And YES.. this method is dangerous.. I repeat.. this method is dangerous... I did not seal some of the wires very carefully.. (still a bit newbie at electronics) and I used some lousier parts than cookie's.. Again, cookie DID NOT follow my schematics nor did he copy, he was doing his concurrently when I was doing mine... in fact we did discuss some parts about it and he did raise safety concerns which I totally agree on... but since I made this for myself, the only one I can kill is me should something go wrong (touch wood)... but cookie has his for sale and it would make sense to ensure that it not only works but is relatively safe for the reefer.. As for me, even when I was working on the project I got electric shocked not once but TWICE due to carelessness... while my young heart can still take the jolt, I rather not take the chance again... So like I said before, it's either you get your hands dirty and DIY, or spend a few more dollars, save the trouble, probably reduce the risks at the same time and get the Tubby instead...
  22. That is so not true!!! It happened to me!! A snail got loose from the refugium, climbed into the last compartment, climbed up the pump's wire, climbed onto the float switch and nearly killed the tank... luckily I found out quickly SBS: Yah, the backup that I had went down along with my own computer crash... so no pics liao...
