  1. T5 and PL PAR similar? Their penetration levels alone are different right?
  2. Strange.. I just realised that it isn't wave action that is causing my float switch to go mad... For some reason there's a "pulsing" of water in my last chamber... i.e. the water rises, then drops, then rises then drops... not VERY quickly like a wave.. but certainly a lot faster than evaporation.. Any ideas? Could it be my return pipe not being able to handle the flow? It's a 25mm pipe doing 2800l/h....
  3. Hm... is one 2500l/h pump (50W?) + one 2800l/h pump (100W) + one table fan (?W) + one 250W MH considered overloaded? Die.. I also realised that this particular extension cord is also connected to mains via a multiplug!!!!
  4. Hm.. I tot ocean nutrition one is quite good? I'm using the Formula Two flake food... even my algae blenny eats it...
  5. Hi guys, I FINALLY FINALLY got my 250W bulb!! I fired up my modded victron casing and it's working fine.. already did up a DIY PVC rack to hold the casing, that is working too... Now all I need to know is if I need to plug the 250W MH directly to the mains, can I just plug it in along with an existing extension cord that is currently used to power my pumps? Also, can "The Ben" timer tahan the MH? Thanks! Ervine
  6. I have about 15-20kgs... using eggcrate ... still not enough but I suppose when the corals come in it should cover...
  7. Wah wah wah... a clam refugium?! Do they REALLY take up so much nutrients from the water column?
  8. Wah they will still entertain meh?... Hmm.... but ehiem easy to get replacement parts (at least easier) Haliea... errrr.... Nevermind I go check with them nonetheless... Longshot but if the replacement falls thru, think I can use some epoxy to "mould" back the chipped off part??
  9. took it apart.. blades okay but one SMALL SMALL little part of the impeller chipped, I also donno what is it called... at the tip of the impeller (next to blades) looks like 2 "C" shaped things clasping the centre shaft.. one of the "C"s is chipped a little... If I want to get a replacement impeller where can I find one? Thanks!
  10. Sob sob... confirm? it's still pumping water though...
  11. Hi guys, I came back after a weekend and to my horror, my DIY auto-top up screwed up on me.. causing the water level in the return to drop to dangerous levels... (sigh.. murphy's law) In fact the water level was so low, my tank became a skimmer as the return pump (Haliea 6540) spewed air into the tank.. I don't know for how long this carried on.. anyway, I re-primed the pump and got it going again.. But now there's an irritating rattling sound that I cannot seem to get rid of... anyone experienced this before? I tried turning the pump off then on again but to no avail.. In fact the pump sometimes doesn't fire up when the electricity is turned on!!! So how? how to solve the rattling? Or is my pump beyond repair liao? Thanks!
  12. Interesting... I've thought of this before, set up one place just for DIYers to hang out.. but that's unlikely considering rent and all... unless someone willing to open his house or something

    Liverocks....

Later kenna fine for illegal dumping.. hahaa...
  14. No need to change lah... a little bit of protein in the water only....
  15. Eh boxing the chiller up would result in heat being built up within the acrylic box, which (if temperatures reach high enough) might cause the acrylic to warp... Also, the heat build up is bad for the chiller... do consider...
  16. 2ft by 2ft thin acrylic (assuming 3mm?) is VERY prone to cracking even if not making a tank!! be careful ah...

I think I saw a thread on ebay or something with this guy selling off his DIY LR before...

Rock salt.. good idea!! BTW, pond makers use pineapple to help cure their concrete ponds faster.... same principal as vinegar... BTW, making concrete is almost an art... water to cement ratio is one of the factors, more water more viscous but less strength.. the other is type, size, amount of aggregate (pebbles, sand, gravel, etc) this gives other properties like texture, additional strength, etc etc.. Best way is to trial and error.. or get tried and proven recipies from abroad...
  19. You must have A LOT of algae.. hahaa On a side note... my lawnmower is one lazy bugger!!! I have NEVER seen it chow down on any algae before!!!

Actually cement IS porous... although you can't really see it but it is... Someone should try churnning out large amounts of these DIYed rocks cure them then dunk them in a saltwater tub to make them "colonized"... them sell them at prices cheaper than normal LRs...
  21. Luckily I measured it nicely such that I can reach the bottom of my tank w/o a stool but I'm almost up to my armpits with water!
  22. That's a great idea!... might go and try it.. just worried that the velcro might not glue well enough to the rock...
