  1. BTW, those coolers are not cold enough... put a can of coke in and it'll only come out cool, not cold... thus don't expect to chill your tank by much...
  2. It is NOT easy to do a DIY iceprobe... for one reason you need to supply very high current to the peltier cooler and that alone is not an easy task, then there's the heat exchanger, the exhaust fan etc... Also, not easy to get the parts required and if you don't know what you are doing, going to end up busting a hundred bucks or more...
  3. i'm also using a 2.5ft tank 250W MH, but without chiller.. just a big table fan... don't mind the evaporation because I have an auto top up...
  4. FYI, I don't really like the BLV 20k 250W SE bulb that I have... it's way too blue for my liking.. makes all the colours merge together into one big chunk of blue... which I don't fancy but for some reason some people say that it's better for coral colouration... shrug...
  5. Same here, first day and they were out and about chowing down on cyclopeeze... but the only literature I could get my hands on about them stated that they are not easy to keep alive in captivity... *touch wood*
  6. How do you remove the internal scratches? I had one before but it hazed horribly especially after scraping off algae...
  7. I don't really like my BLV 20k... it's WAYYYY too blue... makes all the colours fuse into one.. either that or the bulb hasn't burnt in fully yet..
  8. I believe the "juice" is actually oil from the wood, which protects it against water rot or something....
  9. Actually the one I got from Clementi 328 was visibly larger in grain size than those from petmart... luckily I only got a small bag from C328...
  10. Yah got... check out my thread in the DIY forum about the MH case mod..
  11. I think tronchus snails are better, more hardworking... at least it seems to me... bought some from the pasir ris farms some time back but they have since passed... wonder why, maybe not enough algae

    Skimmer

The acrylic (assuming it's acrylic) tubes too?? Where exactly?
  13. oh yah will probably try turning off the inbuilt fan see if the temp shoots up... but that will have to wait for a while till I get back home...
  14. THanks guys... yah it's PVC pipes, 25mm ones connected and spray painted black (for aesthetic purpose only) As mentioned, the water temp doesn't really budge much compared to when I was using PLs... probably due to both the table fan and fan inside the light casing.. BTW, the light casing fan is constantly pulling hot air out... so much so that I can touch the casing without it even feeling excessively hot.. The external ballast however is almost scorching to touch! (thus the reason why I used an external ballast.. that and the weight)
  15. I heard from my lecturer that they are VERY energy consuming... so might not be worth it... anyone care to clarify?
  16. Wah damn ex man.... but they look good...
  17. Maybe I got lucky but my princess anthias are already eating and swimming around... just got them today and they happily chowing down on cyclopeeze... Anyone has experience keeping them? I've read that they are not exactly easy to keep... but wanted to try...
  18. Hehe.. you the one I asked if you still wanted the shrimp & goby?
  19. Yah mine don't really like to swim to the surface to grab food.. that's why I have my DIY floating food ring to hold the flakes till they become damp enough and sink....
  20. primarily shadow.... the wire is actually there as a safety precaution it's not structurally holding anything... Oh the rack is pretty safe I can put my whole body weight on it without it giving way (of course not while it's on the tank!!) It's the connection between casing and rack that I worry about... using annealled steel wires to hold it... actually also quite safe lah... but u know us singaporeans lah.. kiasi
  21. Hope you guys like it... please tell me if I have gone wrong anywhere or where I can improve upon...
  22. Lastly a view of the tank from one of the sides... (er the best looking side.. hehe the other sides still can see a lot of the PVC rack)
