Go see how I did mine loh... DIY forum under the 250W MH Mod... or the Members tank forum, under 2.5ftx1.5ftx2ft tank.... Mine die die had to do PVC rack or hood (which is too ex for me) coz my tank is orientated in such a way that it was impossible to hang it in any way (false ceiling & too far from wall)... ugly, but it works (pretty stable too I might add)

Actually ehiems can get replacement impellers right? So not so high risk, as in no need to by the whole set again, just the impeller.. (assuming only the impeller spoils!)..

used to have a 1ft nano... what I can say is, get something bigger... you can't fit much into a 1ft or 1.5ft... but if you are still very interested, my filtration back then was at first a simple internal pump with DIY air driven skimmer, then moved on to a hang on back refugium with DIY air driven skimmer, then upgraded to a 1.5ft sump/refugium with Weipro skimmer... finally I then upgraded my tank coz couldn't take it anymore...

AC fans do not need DC converters... and likewise I think $30 is expensive... but not too sure if the ones at Sim Lim are 5" in diameter...

Hi guys, I've a few zebra hermits from ML and some unknown dwarf hermits from PR... always wondered if they needed to change shells like some of the literature on the net suggests... Anyway, I found somewhere that sells suitable shells at Chinatown Complex, the mini flea market next to the hawker centre... bought one box (about 10 shells inside) for $1... washed them, dumped them into my tank and in a few hours I saw one of my old zebra hermits in his spanking new bigger apartment... Only thing is, these shells look like they have been varnished or something... Hm... not too sure if that's reef safe but I suppose it's okay... Just thought you guys might like to know.. Ervine..

okay just tested my freshly brewed salt water... and it says it has Ca 580mg/l, kH 8dkh, pH 8.4... something wrong right?? Using coralife salt BTW...

Hi guys, Anyone uses JBL test kits, more specifically their kH, Ca and pH test kits? I've been getting questionable readings from them... Ca - 600mg/l (GASP!!!) kH - 5dkh pH - 8.2 I'm dosing kalk via a kalkreactor, actually very little kalk, I think around 3-4 teaspoons via the reactor over a week for a 55gal tank... That's 3-4 teaspoons dissolved in 5gals (er.. not too sure but it's a big white plastic jerry can) of freshwater... If I'm overdosing kalk, won't my pH skyrocket? Yet it still remains at 8.2... yet Ca is amazingly high and kH dangerously low... Please advise.. (I suspect my test kits have to go...) Thanks!

Oh forgot to mention, temp hovers below 29... without MH on 27+, with MH 28+.... so far I've not seen it hit 29...

Eh not really.. I'm using 250W on a 2.5x15ft without chiller, so far corals and fishes still okay... but take heed my fan is a table fan, not those small clips ones... and my MH is ventilated (i.e. not a hood)

Getting an old bulb might not be very good.. esp if it's a very old one that has burnt off most of it's life... so if you get a 2nd hand one try to make sure that it's relatively new....
