Red Sea 170 is a 34 G tank base on website spec. Is a little smaller the a 2 ft cube. You can watch out for decomm thread . I think there is 1 or 2 piece last week -
Be careful . This water if not DI type has add mineral added. Chances of getting algae bloom very high if you do not have proper nutrient export

Water change will only solve your high nitrate temporaily. It will come back as soon as you think it is ok. To remove your nitrate you first need a skimmer to export what is not needed as fast as possible. You can lower your nitrate by running biopellet in FR but you cannot control it as you require. You want control nitrate dose carbon and bacteria. Carbon like vinegar, sugar or vinegar/sugar mixture or vodka. You can also use ATS or chaeto reactor or refugium. Or you can combine them for better control. Water change is never your answer to nitrate problem unless you doing very large water change like 90 to 100% daily

Our tank is a small envirnoment compare to the ocean. Whatever waste buildup become nutrient. If this nutrient is not fully use up it become a nusiance in not time So its important to keep yr nutrient at acceptable level by exporting out the unwanted timely.
