Got liverock..huge pieces.. Firefish.. Still got some sps...and LPS... I'm sure their display tank will end up looking spectacular...especially with such a long cycling period.. -
Eh? I tot the clownfish is supposed to coat the anemone with the anemones mucus so that the anemone will recognise the clownfish as one of its own 'tentacles'? It's portrayed in 'Finding Nemo' too...

Wow..you know the scientific name huh... I had a pair of those..but not around anymore..introduced a diseased individual..affected the rest....darn....

As I am going open top concept with DIY T5s...I have to let go of my black acrylic hood..really beautiful..looks just like new.. Size is 4 feet X 1.5 ft X 1.5 ft Comprises of 2 sets of 2X(36-40W) Elbiru E-ballast..meaning a total of 4 FL tubes or PL tubes can be fired up. 2 sets of 4.5inchX4.5inch fans mounted on top of the hood. One opening on the front for feeding...can be closed with an acrylic sliding door. Lighting and Fan share the same power plug. One point to note...the end caps are superglued inside the hood on a clear acrylic sheet...3 out of 4 end caps need replacing..you might have to replace the end caps by gluing the new ones just next to the faulty ones... Will throw in a 4 ft T12 actinic tube. and 2 4 ft NEC 6500K white FLs. Also with 4 used reflectors...one for each FL tube..might have to clean with weak acid..covered abit with carbonate buildup...and salt spray.. I will have a pic of it up soon next week...lent my digital camera to a friend. I've decided to put it up for bidding..due me having difficulty finalising a price due to the cost of the fans alone($40.. ) as well as the ballasts.. Bidding starts from $50..

I agree with hongqixian..anemones with stronger stings generally eat larger prey items in the wild...Eg. carpet anemones, tube anemones.. Anemones with weaker stings are slightly more picky over their food choices in the wild...some studies have shown that bubble tipped anemones actually selectively prefer planktonic prey. Even the most healthy of anemones will take DAYS to fully digest food. It is always best to underfeed than to overfeed. Underfeeding will cause your anemone to grow slower...but overfeeding will cause it to die. Digestion needs energy. Feeding a newly purchased anemone frequently and with large food items will greatly lead to their demise. The energy needed to replace nematocysts lost during transport coupled with the energy needed to digest food will stress the animal out. My advice for newly acquired anemones (photosynthetic ones)..would be to give them strong light...and starve them for 7-10 days before you commence feeding. Give them time to recuperate in your tank before subjecting them to the energy demands needed to digest food. Even food as small as a mysis....will take days to be fully digested. Sometimes...a little starvation is good.

If it starts budding you can kill it with a lethal injection of calcium hydroxide. As for the algae...I would leave it...nothing to be worried about..

EcoSystem (Miracle Mud) Method for SPS
FuEl replied to shieldk's topic in SPS and Advanced Reefkeepers Forum
After I went out with my dad yesterday...he was driving behind this loaded truck. And somehow the stuff on the truck reminded me of miracle mud. I have this gut feeling that miracle mud = marine clay? -
You meant the clownfish has not gotten used to the anemone.

Reminds me of nus.

My tank is the same dimension as yours. Some things I have done..total height of tank is 18inch...but water never exceeds 15.5 inches. Only a sparse layer of sand. Very light rock...most for building supports...Don't have any big and bulky rock pieces. Why not you just use your this 4 feet as the sump tank? Buy a stronger tank as your display. A height of 18 inch really limits the landscaping opportunity..as well as the type of fish you can keep. The biggest fish in my 4 ft is only about 7cm...but I think it is already distorting the landscape look by swimming around...

I got one coz my fren tompang it in my tank coz it kept going terrestial in his house.. ...excellent scavenger..does'nt disturb any of my fish.. Saw 2 pcs at re***n today... body excluding feelers about 2cm onli. Mine's about 8cm long excluding feelers... . It has a well serrated tail many thanks to my harlequin shrimp.

OIc...helps to solve damsel problems without messing up your tank. SpiderOne...why not you loan it out instead? hehe...good business idea?

Wow..so rich sia..feed it damsels...I tot those small fish at the market will do?

I actually find the yellow longnose butterfly easiest to keep. Tried and tested.. it liked frozen bloodworm.

Normally people avoid keeping angels with any hard corals. Not even dwarf angels are 100% safe. They might have a natural instinct to peck at corals. Anyway..tangs...always add the smallest and most sensitive tang first. Give it time to adjust to its new home before introducing the bigger and more hardy one. I would add achilles tang first...best to find a small specimen.. last one to go in would be yellow tang. I would avoid regal tang...the strongest ich magnet IMO among tangs.

TLC = ? Nah...I dun like ppl touching my head...it removes all the microscopic fauna I keep in my hair...and introduce different species that I don't like.
-
Frankly I don't see the point of paying so much for mysis. And I can't seem to see any logic about the advantage of feeding freshwater shrimp to marine fish. There might be advantages like the fish wun have to expend energy to expel salt...but...freshwater food might be deficient in certain nutrients that can be only found in marine organisms.

Wow...I thought 2 regals will only end up with 1 regal.. I remember the time when I bought 3 juvenile regals about 5cm each...in the end...only 1 left...it murdered the 1 within a day...and living peacefully with the other one for a week or so..until it decided to murder it as well...and to tink all that took place in a 4 ft tank.
