  1. Ah...my magnesium levels might be the problem.. My calcium level is around 480 now... And I have trouble keeping my dkH at 10...after raising it to 10..it always drops to 9 within a day.....pH around 8.4...abit high? Few days ago...dunno why...I added seachem reef builder solution into my 200-300litre (not sure) tank too fast..the solution contained about 2 teaspoon full of reef builder.. After that...zoanthids became to shrink..yellow star polyps began to shrink..mushrooms began to shrink...sps polyps retracted...3 days after that episode and all of them still dun look as big as they used to be......i did a 10% waterchange today... Dunno what should i do.........should i check the magnesium?
  2. Hmmm..i remember scientific names better than remembering chinese characters.
  3. It all depends on your luck to choose the right fish..even though the right fish might become bad as time passes.. Too bad fishes can't be brain scanned.
  4. Ask the other gurus...ALL angelfish are prone to having split personalities. One fine day they will just take a peck at corals or clams and they will get addicted. Something like heroin..
  5. Oh yes..if you are using MH lights...you MUST not save on a chiller...I'm not sure what horsepower is suitable as I have only owned a teco chiller once which i stupidly thrown away...Get a good chiller..and you will not face problems keeping up with evaporation rates and forever fluctuating salinity. Another thing is good current..you will need tunzes...if you are intending to keep LPS or SPS...or even softies in such a big tank. Also the placement of your liverock plays an important role in not getting any dead spots formed in your tank.
  6. Use the 4 foot IOS tank as the main tank. Use the 4 foot normal tank as a sump and refugium. If both your 4foot tanks do not have a hole drilled..you might want to consider the I-box..or just get a brand new DISPlay tank with 10mm glass to be safe. Using your old tank to be display tank is possible..but I only recommend you try not to stretch the limit and fill it only 7/10 or 8/10th full. You can add eurobracings around the tank before it is setup to provide additional support. Your resultant tank would be very very stable due to such a high resultant water volume. Less possibility for sudden parameter fluctuations. You only need 1 return pump..as water flows into the sump by gravity. Such flow is normally self-regulated depending on the diameter of your piping. Lighting I would suggest 2X250W metal halides. You won't need any upgrading from there. You can keep basically anything. You won't have to worry about having too much light..cause there is NEVER too much light. If you are using both 4 footers...use deep sand bed in both tanks..imagine the amount of microfauna that can spawn and provide food for your corals. As with all tank setups..be patient with cycling...and add livestocks slowly.. All the best.
  7. Hmm..considering you are utilising natural sunlight..how many lamps do you actually supplement the sunlight with?
  8. Butterflyfish are known to be hard to sustain in captivity,...because with a few exceptions..most are obligate feeders of coral polyps. Anthias that hide very often are most likely doomed...healthy specimens will be swimming around actively and not resting at the bottom.
  9. It is the flame angels and other angelfishthat are not reef saFE... Blue tang and foxface are reefsafe.
  10. I'm accident prone whenever it comes to driving..regardless of car or bike... So have to settle for walking..oh well..at least i get to lose the weight i gained during my makan sutra holiday.
  11. My buttons and yellow star polyps and brown star polyps have onli been opening partially... few days ago i added seachem's reef builder too rapidly..tink added 2 teaspoons of reef builder water-mix into my sump directly Tink i was too tired to know wat i was doing.....

  13. Sound alright to me...cardinalfish are quite peaceful..although they still need individual territories like all other fish..you will notice they tend to hover around the same spot. Depends on the size of your tank.
  14. sudden changes in water parameters can cause them to close up..for instance...a massive waterchange..
  15. A good old fan will do...no nid a chiller..not cost effective if you are only switching it on 1 day a week.
  16. Not many vote for sunday cause most ppl stay home at sunday and rest for monday.......

  18. Erm..provided the cleaner shrimp is not small enough to be eaten.
  19. It all depends on the width of your tank..if your tank is 2 feet wide you probably will need 4 or more depending on what you want to keep. If your tank is less than 2 feet wide you might be able to do with 3 or 4 tubes. It also depends on the height of your tank.
  20. It might have been mauled by something
  21. At least it does'nt attack you..mine tries to scapel my hand whenever it can...the evil thing!
