  1. wow..they look exactly like......plastic moulds. It's a compliment!
  2. Would like to thank Joe for his help....sending my 4 frags to his house for vacation......waiting for the chemical warfare in my tank to settle down first b4 i get them back...dun wan such beautiful things to die in my tank....
  3. Salifert is expensive because it can do up to 50-100 tests...moreover..it's accurate.
  4. Don't worry..does'nt look that bad...just leave it alone and all should be fine Definitely looking better than my mushrooms.
  5. Sounds like brown jelly disease or some sort of bacterial infection.
  6. Ok..measured my kH today again and it has stabilized at 7.7... Ya..recently my tank had an algae bloom...already replaced my contraphos with rowaphos (meant for 250-500litres tank).... my sps frags still look unhappy because of my mistake... Can see lil parts of it starting to lose color..think it's bleaching.. I was hoping to tompang my sps in someone's tank for the time being till my tank recovers from the chemical imbalance.....is it advisable? Or is it less stressful for them to 'go thru the mill'? Stopped adding reef builder and even kalk already......just topping up with freshwater. Who can let me tompang my frags? Joe...where are you? Can?
  7. I think his dimension is in cm? Seem quite impossible to be in inches.
  8. Don't think many ppl add trace elements. Water changes will take care of them. Kalk would be beneficial...but be sure to check magnesium and maintain it too.. No one told me about it..never have i heard about it..until it was too late..now I'm faced with shrinking mushrooms.
  9. chloride ions are forever present in NSW...nothing suprising if it's bound to calcium or magnesium..you can't add calcium or magnesium alone....(disastrous)..that's why salts containing chlorides and other anions are included in reef builder..probably to maintain the same chemical proportions found in NSW... Adding sodium as the only cation and bicarbonate as the only anion will change the chemical balance in your tank. It can be used in freshwater as freshwater organisms do not need as much of the other elements compared to marine organisms.
  10. Hmm..wrong forum leh..should post under diseases thread.
  11. Used baking soda in freshwater planted tank to raise kH before..Think it's basically sodium bicarbonate. Don't think sodium bicarbonate would suffice...checking out the contents of reef builder there are other components like carbonate, chloride, bicarbonate and sulphate salts of sodium, magnesium, strontium and potassium. I think adding sodium bicarbonate alone will add to chemical imbalance..
  12. I'm dumb founded..yesterday tested the kH was 8.7.....today tested again it dropped to 7.7...using salifert. Calcium back to above 500ppm..... I'm not dosing anymore reef builder as I found I have used maybe 1/3 the bottle trying to get it to stay above 9......Something just does'nt seem right to be needing to add so much reef builder.. Should I check my magnesium levels? Need some advice..will it actually have any effects on the kH stability? I don't wanna go buy a Mg test kit and Mg supplement for nothing......
  13. oops..i shoot bird...quoted wrong thing...it's the I-box that hangs over the bracing.
  14. ? I use fans for my 4 footer all year round..24/7...but top up is crazy....
  15. Custom make one lah..i think around $20 more..mine hangs on the side of my tank over the bracing..
  16. Ah...now sch start already..might not be so free...last time i always go hunting at east coast park near fort rd area in pitch darkness..was hoping to find pythons..but onli found local treefrogs....
  17. People buy tubby to top up water...wah..u gave it another use...to regulate water flow....
  18. I agree with weilong..if you let the water flow down by gravity then it should not be a problem..just make sure your canister has enough 'horsepower'...and clean it regularly to keep it at maximum efficiency.
  19. jd_n...when i off my pump my sump does'nt overflow...cause i limit the water level in the sump. Anyway...with regards to using a canister with a pump....even if you manage to stabilise the flowrates to be approx. equal...over time...your canister has the tendency to clog up...slowing down the flow back into your main tank....your pump in the main tank will continue to pump water into ur sump at the same rate. Sooner or later your house will be flooded with salt water...a very very sticky experience.
  20. Don't even think about using a canister to pump the water back up... Canister works on your main tank to pump water back up because the water is pushed up against gravity via water that is flowing down...counter-current effect. In a sump...water must be mostly pumped up without the aid of the downcurrent utilising only the motor power. I have tried this using eheim professional canister...it works at a height of 1.2-1.4 meters (distance from sump to main tank) but the resultant outflow into the maintank is VERY VERY slow. Not really productive..considering the extra load placed on the canister..it might just break down.
  21. That's the problem with common names..they can be misleading. Compare those at reb*rn with those at ML...you will see the difference.
