  1. The black colouration is a sign that your deep sand bed is maturing. Leave it be. Nothing to be worried about. Hydrogen sulphide buildup does not occur as rapid as you think.
  2. Yea..use an overkill of rowaphos..Recently I dumped in 500ml of rowa...now all my diatoms n brown algae are suffering.
  3. It's your nitrites. Why are there still nitrites present in your water?
  4. Just leave the shells inside..my shrimps eat up their own shells anyway.
  5. If you read articles by Julian Sprung on the care of gonioporas, you will realise that strong lighting is not really crucial to their well-being. It seems that they do better in a system whereby they are placed directly on a sand bed. Gonioporas are naturally found in rather nutrient rich waters. Maybe the failure to duplicate this condition in captivity has led to their demise. They might also be heavily reliant on zooplankton. The care of gonioporas in general is still poorly understood by the majority of aquarists. You can try...but don't if you know your water conditions are overly pristine for it.
  6. eh? Could'nt be bothered....I'm a messy person.
  7. I've had one in my tank for 4-5 months.....went M.I.A one day and never found its carcass. Dunno what it had been feeding on..or maybe it was just starving to death. But lucky my tank din crash after that.
  8. Alot of factors are also involved, including the grade of sand you are using. If you are using grade 0 maybe 4-5 inches would suffice. If you are using grade 1 you might need slightly a deeper layer of sand. If your temperature is below 27 degrees celcius a deeper sand bed would most probably function better.
  9. nudibranchs can go for months without food.
  10. That's why now there are actually cabinets that are made that allows your tank to 'sink' in.

Soap?! I thought any wise aquarist would not use soap to wash anything? I've heard of people using mild bleach....rinsing thoroughly after that..but never heard of people using soap.
  12. Cauliflowers very hard to keep..must feed constantly...i've one with me for about 1-2 years already (can't remember)...it's not growing...nor is it doing well...it seems to be shrinking. Sometimes will expand nicely...sometimes will be shrunken. No idea what it is up to.
  13. Eh? Don't remember mine leaking.
  14. My method is unheard of...undergravel plate with a thin covering of sand above.
  15. No..got from someone staying very near me..ahaha..think you know liao.
  16. One of my new additions today.....also got another 'helicopter' shrimp..
  17. A close up of the reactor...in case it seems to small.
  18. Hmm..ok...decided to do this before my com dies on me once again..anyway...think Joe_P is gonna name his line of Ca reactors as 'Reef Maniacs'? Mine is the smallest version...one name he had in mind for it was Reef Maniac Miniature. I have tried using 1 bubble every 7 seconds, drip rate once every 3 seconds. Effluent was 54dKH. So far so good, managed to hold my KH values around 10. Never seemed to be able to do so when I was dosing manually. Still in the process of tweaking it... The parts used in construction are of high quality. Even the joints are built to last. Think this unit will last me a looongggg time. Below is a pic of it. It's next to a sump of 2X1X1
  19. $10 for that is very expensive. The max I would pay for the species you are talking about is $8. I've given up on that shrimp. They just seem to do well for a month or two before turning opaque and die without a reason. My other shrimps are fine, with 2 of my ###### shrimps being with me for 3-4 months already.
  20. hmmm...mostly dogs n mammals....ok...2 of my pets last time...miss them..
  21. Common misconception..it's turning sexual...not asexual...asexual is growth via the holdfasts. Anyway....2X24 T5s are more than enough. They have higher intensity compared to PLs and are more cost effective. They produce less heat too. Try it..you'll be pleased with the results. If you are going for ATI brand I recommend sunpro for macroalgae.
  22. Just use salifert...it's one of the best around.
  23. This is because....... 'Known Range - Great Egg Harbor NJ to Port Aransas TX; Surinam; French Guiana; Mamanguape and Sao Paulo, Brazil ' from http://www.reefs.org/library/article/hopkins_redfield.html
