Hmm..don't think its the pipefish you talking about. Mine the head area a little reddish one. It "slithers" around more than it swims. Last pic of the night..the best of friends. Those are not white spot...but debri on the spotted mandarin..wonder where did it play in.

? It's more of the way you introduce them I suppose. My both mandarins introduced together. The spotted looks full body when I got it..might be female. The other normal mandarin looks sleeker and might be a male. Maybe get hybrid mandarins? Also the shrimps were in before the orchid dottyback. If the orchid dottyback was the first one in I think the shrimps would have been in its tummy.

Got spares let me know. I'll make sure there will be enough for everyone.

Unidentified pipefish I got about more than a month ago. Been feeding on copepods in the tank. Too small to eat frozen mysis or brine shrimp.

Update on my "experiment" -spotted mandarin which was weaned onto frozen mysis and feeding greedily(failed). It died a couple of days ago. Was rather lethargic and breathing heavily the day before it died. Either due to me overdosing phytoplankton to the tank (highly doubt so as my other fish such as yashias are still alive) or probably due to overeating and subsequent indigestion. (possible, it looked like it was about to burst). -normal mandarin which was not feeding on frozen before (success for now). Now it eats frozen brine shrimp enriched with selcon and frozen mysis (Hikari brand). Not chasing them eagerly like my spotted mandarin though. Only follows them for a brief period. I'm thinking to try the method of a feeding bowl.

Geographical variation is possible. Polymorphism (variation in color) can occur in the same species...especially if populations of the same species are rather isolated from one another.

Only 4-5 pcs left for grabs. Pm me if interested. For those who have been asking how to care for them - place them in moderate current to prevent settling of debri and aiding the shedding of mucus. - low phosphate levels prevents growth of smothering algae. - I feed them with Aquaz supreme blend phytoplankton, liquidlife USA bioplankton, Liquidlife USA coralplankton (rotifers) and golden pearls (rotifer substitute).

I tried but give up on them. I chose the healthiest looking one but it died the 2nd day. I think these gobies don't really ship well.

I notice it helps if you off your water circulation and let the food sink to the bottom of the tank. Some of my newly acquired mandarins prefer to pick food from the floor rather than having to chase them.

Gonna get flamed...Introduced together. Both don't fight but swim around together. Nothing is impossible?
