  2. Stongobiops nematodes lah..Have not seen Stonogobiops xanthorhinica in Singapore yet. If yours is indeed one you will be a very lucky man. Some rock/arrow cleaners (Urocaridella sp.) will make a good addition.
  3. Hmmm..yea..advisable to run a FR to absorb the silicates a.s.a.p if you used tapwater for mixing with the salt. If not once your lights are on you will notice your white sand and your glass going brown with diatoms. Not exactly harmful...but rather an eyesore..
  4. Ah..nasty stuff..maybe could try a copperband or yellow longnose butterfly?
  5. First time spawners tend to eat their own eggs due to inexperience. I would rather let them gain this experience and over time they will be better parents and you can leave the eggs with them without any problems. If feeding the fry is a hassle for then you leaving them with the parents is a better choice as initially they will feed on the mucus coat of the parents.
  6. Hmmm..well not all Malaysians think like that.
  7. Any fish would eat them. Amphipods are great food sources. Mandarins and pipefish will love them.
  8. Only seen rics and yumas feed. Never noticed my discosomas feeding.
  9. Just do water changes with the right water. A good salt mix would be recommended to achieve the appropriate levels of alkalinity and calcium. Sooner or later your water parameters will be back to normal. That way you won't shock your livestock too.
  10. Not easy to measure wet weight as the more it grows the more water can affect your readings. If your school has the facilities a better way to measure growth is using dry weight. Basically you take a sample from the chaeto every week with the same wet weight, dry it up in the oven and use that weight as an indicator of growth (in terms of organic content). This will take away the inaccuracy that water contributes to weight readings.
  11. Nice fish... Your neon eviota might be a female if its dorsal fin is not elongated. Mine had an elongated dorsal fin ..might have been a male.
  12. Asked a friend who might me interested to pm you. Not sure if he's looking for 7091 or 7095 though. Cheers~
  13. Try H20 Aquarium near kembagan mrt. Cheap rocks. Bring in tanganyika cichlids too. Used to work there..

No one exactly knows the reason why xenias pulse. Some speculate it's to increase water circulation, others say it's for food capture, some say it's to shield itself from bright lights..the list goes on. As for the pulsing action, I agree with what iantoh has said about the pH and kH levels. I probably would add photoperiod as a possible reason too. You won't notice your xenia pulsing as much after lights off. pH drop at night might cause this effect too but your pH won't fluctuate alot at optimal kH levels.
  15. Lysmata wurdemanni is the true peppermint shrimp. The one that resembles it might be Lysmata kuekenthali? Just guessing
  16. Hmmm...before embarking on my research topic next semester, thought I should get some advices from fellow hobbyists. I left out commensal crustaceans as they would probably be a pain to breed. Hope I get success with the species I end up choosing cause the aquarium market here pays big $ for shrimps. From what I heard a blood shrimp down here costs around Aus $100 at retail. So..help me by voting guys!
  17. Never get tired of your tank..such colors..they blind me! Must be one of the tanks with the most amount of light.
  18. You don't need blinding lights to have coralline algae. I've had coralline grow in my skimmer which was placed in my sump. The only light it got was room light (indirect sunlight during the day and normal ceiling lights at night). It only occurred after the hooking up of a calcium reactor. Which probably kept Ca, Mg and kH levels conducive to coralline growth.
  19. Anyone using T5s for planted tanks? Care to show us a few pics? hehe Hehe...Planted aquariums not so fussy about light. My plants were satisfied with normal full spectrum FL tubes..
  20. I've had a pair of Jann's pipefish that were so tame they would venture all the way out just to snick at mysis. I have not tried alligator pipefish but so far I find Jann's pipefish easier to wean compared to the normal banded pipefish or the more exotic orange banded pipefish.
