Weekly Report - 23th to 29th Jan 2006

2 pc Highfin Perchlets spotted at Golden octopus. Also blue spotted blue discosomas, red discosomas with faint blue spots, and nice yellow zoanthids. -
Should have enough. I don't normally worry about strontium and iodide levels. Mg levels should be more of a concern, as it is one of the more abundant cations besides Na and Ca. The previous two are only present in trace amounts in natural seawater. Commercial salt-mixes normally have such trace elements exceed the natural values.

Giving away some light tubes that I used when I was just starting out on the hobby. 6 X 40W 6500K NEC tubes. Good enough for planted tanks or softies. 1 Coralife 20,000K T8 Tube (40W I think). One side the pin is very loose, might need to fix it up in order for it to work. 1 Tridonic T8 Tube (40W). A little pinkish if I did'nt remember wrongly. Been lying around for about 2 years but should still work. Will give priority to those who can collect all at once. Collection along marine parade.

Great stuff and great price~

Currently at 7 days, only left about 20-30 larvae. Much harder than blood shrimps. Maybe the early rotifer diet was a mistake. Oh well, till my next batch in another 2 weeks time.
-
Low nitrates, close to 0 ppm if possible.
-
Noticed this specimen behaves differently compared to normal cup corals. Apparently the polyps only extend after lights out.

Come to think of it thank goodness my house has no rats. Used to work in an aquarium with goldfish missing everyday. One fine day came across a foul stench. Went to investigate and came across a pile of disemboweled goldfish.

Wow..still little babies. Would love to get them if I had a swimming pool to house them in. Hmmm, many people just release them into local waters. Can be a double edged sword as it might affect local ecosystem, but then again they can control other exotic fish like luohans, etc.

Common name is orange spotted filefish. Good luck with the fish. From what I've read it's an obligate feeder of coral polyps.

Too bad the geckos at my place are gargantuan in comparison to normal sized geckos. Thanks to the free treat of mealworms they have been stealing from me over the years. Even eat rice or other table scraps that fall onto the floor. Now come and eat my peppermint shrimp..$18 gone to them! Ungrateful buggers! Maybe time to keep a free roaming troop of oriental whipsnakes. All the lizards will be gone.

Not witness, but perhaps the most logical explaination. Happened to a couple of my friends as well. The shrimp disappears without a trace even though their tanks have nothing that is capable of eating them. And all their tanks happen to be uncovered, with weak water flow.

Count me in also...which day is good?

In a tank without liverock and predators, one of my peppermint shrimp went missing today. Spent 10 min looking through my tank, could'nt find any dead body. Spent 2 hrs torchlighting my sump and checking my overflow box. Did'nt find anything. The weird thing was I fed it at night when the lights were on and it was behaving normally. It went missing overnight during lights out. As such, the predator should be a nocturnal creature. The only nocturnal livestock I have in my tank are probably only tigertail sea cucumbers and various amphipods. Finally came to a logical conclusion. Prepare yourselves, especially for nano tank keepers. Cover your tanks now, especially if your livestock always loiter near the surface of the water. Afterall, a small shrimp really resembles a bug. Geckos are smarter than you think.

Anyone seen the pink streaked wrasse in Sg before? Supposedly less aggressive compared to the common six line wrasse. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthre...074#post6492074 -

Safe when small, dangerous when big.

Wow..good pricing. If only I was back for good, sure don't mind an aquatechnic display tank...especially at such a cool price.

Cultured too much for comfort. This coming Sunday (22nd) at Bedok North 85 market. Around dinner time let's say 7 pm to secure some seats at least. Those interested please leave your nicks below.

I don't really see what's all the fuss about the "uncommon" Chaetomorpha. It can be found stranded along east coast beach and probably other beaches as well. -
Bidding closed, iantoh you got pm!

Hmmm, such mass resignations have already happened here in sgreefclub long before the RC saga. It's normal for the number of shady/weird/intolerant individuals in a club to increase in proportion to the increasing membership experienced. Sometimes it is best to learn not to take certain comments too seriously. It is afterall an online community, and people often behave differently when behind the comforts of a computer screen. Such indirect forms of communication will always have their downfalls, as different people will perceive different things in their own ways. I've not really judged your character as yet, as I don't judge people until I have met them. But I believe your character can't be as bad as the many people who seem to demand things for free (heard this from a number of experienced reefers), or people who bargain more when people are already selling things at a huge loss (can always be seen at the pasar malam thread). If the last 2 groups of people are still hanging around, why should'nt you? At least you are trying to make things happen, not like the people who just surf the pasar malam section to "squeeze" already desperate sellers.

Diatoms will smother it. Use reverse osmosis water or deionised water for tops up and water changes if you intend to keep macroalgae.
