  1. I am still contemplating whether I should use 4 T5 tubes or MH. My tank is 4 feet X 18 inch X 18 inch. If i DIY T5...I would be looking at around $300? Think it would also be roughly the same if i go for MH. But I am using an acrylic cover. Will the lowest wattage MH bulb melt the acrylic? I have 2 big TV fans inbuilt into my hood. Will those 2 fans be sufficient keep my tank from boiling under the MH?
  2. Some burrowing organisms in your live rock squirting debri out of their homes.
  3. Carpet anemones are so sticky at their tentacles. They basically eat anything. Mine once ate a flame scallop. I would think that if you put your finger into it long enough the anemone would eat it too.
  4. Pipefish are easier in my opinion. They can definitely see smaller food. Seahorses are kind of blind at times.
  5. You can try adapting the ghost shrimps to full strength seawater slowly. and i mean SLOWLY. If not you can always get baby mollies as emergency backup. Kwang's Aquarium at Crane Rd sells them
  6. You need small copepods and stuff crawling on your tank walls before you attempt to buy these or pipefish. You can try newly hatched brine shrimp and frozen mysis though. Or if you are free go to pasir ris beach at low tide and hunt for small shrimps at the mangroves. Beware of snakes though. If they are giving you a headache I would gladly adopt them. My tank has lots of teenie weenie stuff for them to hunt.
  7. Yep..get the short spines...definitely safer. My diadema pricked me once. I avoided its spines...but somehow it attacked me with its spines when it felt water movement near it. How aggressive! Ended up with luckily only 1 spine embedded in my skin. No way to remove it so had to rub it till it disintegrates into my blood. I am..............part URCHIN!
  8. LoLx...luckily I can get alot of starfishes for $2 each. Not getting the $14 linkas to feed my shrimps! hehe... Anyway...I got my harlequin from crane rd...$24 only. It's not the hawaiin one..Hawaiin ones at ML got sell. Henry helping his customer sell. But $120 for the pair.
  9. Thanks man...will drop by tomorrow!
  10. I'm thinking of saving up for 4 T5 tubes for my 4feetX18inchX18inch tank. I will be ordering the tubes from eAquanature. Ballast and end caps should be getting from Sim Lim Tower. Anyway... I was thinking if there is any electronic controller out there which I can use to connect to the power switch for my lights so that the brightness of the lights can be increased and decreased over a period of time? I'm an electrical noob so any advice would be welcome.
  11. Get gobies. They are almost 100% immune to the common whitespot. Make sure your tank is properly covered though. They can jump if frightened and become ikan bilis.
  12. WoW...the clam in the middle is a little GIANT.
  13. Urchins are almost impossible to die. Unless you immerse them in 100% freshwater. I once did it to my black spined sea urchin to euthanise it. It was growing to big for the tank and getting dangerous for my hands. It was'nt a really good sight.
  14. Take out the rock the 'thing' hides in...and nuke it!
  15. Oh no...all along these years I have never once dechlorinated my water. Amazing why nothing died.......
  16. 4 feet X 18 inch X 18 inch 1 cleaner shrimp (Lysmata amboinensis) 1 Harlequin shrimp (Hymenocera elegans) Going to get 5 more harlequins! And maybe 1 blood shrimp.
  17. If I had lights like those I would have nothing but clams in my tank.

Hmmm..Australians coming to live in Singapore. Singaporeans going over to Australia to stay. LoLx I would be glad to show you around. Since I am still studying and have free days on weekends, Mondays and Wednesdays. I visit lfs very often. Can drop me a pm if interested in tagging along. If you don't mind bus journeys that is...
  19. Go for 2cm thickness. It wun go wrong. LoLx
  20. Yep.. I meant pistol shrimps. Bigger pistol shrimps can make a meal out of your cleaner shrimps if they want too. Watched the whole process on discovery channel before. The cleaner shrimp approached the pistol shrimp and SNAP! The cleaner shrimp got dazed and dragged into the pistol shrimp's burrow....
  21. Use scientific names next time.
  22. I am still wondering why newbies are still buying anemones when this topic has been discussed before. A pity anemones that can outlive humans in nature are subject to the torment of only a few pathetic months, weeks or even days in captivity. Anemones should just be banned.
