FuEl replied to Regal's topic in Weekly LFS Stocks Report / LFS Info Centre
Went to Harle***n today. Lots of LPS. Hammer coral, fox coral, purplish mushrooms, yellow star polyps, frogspawn, bubble (saw one greenish yellow one), LOTS of nice sea fans (those kind with large protruding blue polyps) and those thick ones with yellow orangey polyps, lots of sun corals and open brains. -
Wow...so I guess you are one of those people who keep stuff..and when they are not doing well, you would rather let them die in your own hands rather than let the more experienced care for them? If I am the kind who wants to get everything for free, my topic would have been 'pls give me all sort of corals'. Rather I have chosen to concentrate on goniopora sp. as they require waters high in nutrients for long term health. Most people with reef tanks here have too pristine waters for goniopora sp. I have to admit that I have a tank with lots of nutrients, that's why I am asking specifically for gonioporas and not SPS. I have had experince with marine for more than 10 yrs already. I am NOT the most experienced here, but I have lots of space in my tank to accomodate 1 or 2 more goniopora.sp if people are willing to give them up if they are not really doing well in their tanks. By the way, getting free stuff is not as good as you think it is. I still must face the possibilities of disease introduction and stuff like that. I feel it is always best to save stuff if you have the ability to do so. Noticed I used the word ADOPT in my topic. Other reefers here don't need you to judge or break down what I have said for them. They have brains to think for themselves whether it is worth to tompang their goniopora in my tank for the time being or for permanent residence. I would suggest you stop being so self-righteous and being so antangonistic. Notice that you are the only person who is making so much noise? I have a feeling that you are the same person that annoyed me,bwilly and SpiderOne in a previous incident. If you are not..then just pls keep quiet. No one will miss your words.

rEAD THRU MY THREAD PROPERLY. I am not asking EVERYONE to give me their gonioporas. I'm only asking those people who have trouble caring for them to spare a thought for them. Caring for them as in getting them to extend their polyps properly..blahblahblah... I am not as selfish as you think. Please get to know people before you make ridiculous comments. I shall not waste my energy over this meaningless argument. You can think what you want... It does'nt affect me in any way. I'm going out now.

Haix...some people just can't get sarcasm.
-
Oh well...people read things differently...my remark about getting another goniopora because I was broke is just pure sarcasm. Anyway...if others misinterpret it wrongly there is nothing I can do... Reefer guy...your's is a different species of goniopora...that's why you don't see the polyps stretching out so long...
-
wow...$35 can get a clam already...
-
make it blow on ur water surface 24/7.
-
..................I did'nt need to know......
-
Eh bwilly..that one look more like the rarer orange skunk...not the common pink skunk leh..
-
Wow...someone should design a fish tank to be placed under a clear bed made of solid glass. Then you can wake up...roll on your bed and admire the clams below..
-
The freeze-dried form actually smells better compared to the frozen form. I have been very tempted to taste the freeze-dried one...maybe I will do so later in the night when no one is awake.. ahaha...I also tasted dried cat food before..smells nice..but yuck..tasteless one. Just hope cyclopeeze got some taste.
-
........if lydat you can only see them properly if you stand up..you sit down in front of your tank hard to see anything at all...wonder who came up with such an idea..
-
hehe...ok...all is well.. Actually started this thread because I looking forward to a 2nd goni... But then now broke already...take bus also got problem..thanks to the T5s, cooling fan, sump and weipro2012...haix..

Muppets? Ewoks you mean? Kill the evil ewoks!
-
Weird how some things look nice on the surface..but when look thru glass..the color very different..just like clams....clams must be kept in shallow tanks where u can view them from the top! more breathtaking..

Mine is not reef lobster..but blue spiny lobster..you know those with big strong white feelers? Can cook and eat one.. body length about 7cm excluding feelers. The receding at the base was already there when I got the poor thing from a FW convert. They kept it under like pink and white FW lights. Now it seems happier..compared to the short stubby polyps I saw at the aquarium. At least it has not receded anymore..seems to be stabilising... hehe..sorry SpiderOne if my topic sounded irky...meant to be for ppl new into the hobby and dunno how to take care of gonioporas properly..at least I feel I can give them a better quality of life before they expire like all living things do....

Erm..30 mins before I took the pic I guess? Not to mention the anemone shrimp in it that likes to hang out at the base of the goniopora.. Left side also seems shorter because of the way my water is flowing..water is flowing against the coral from the left, which explains why the right hand side polyps are longer too. Julian Sprung also agrees that low water flow will help goniopora sp. extend their polyps to their full potential. My water current at the right side of the tank is gentle even for seahorses to swim without much trouble. So actually this is not overextending...rather..that's the way they should be. In an aquarium with new water...and moderate-high water currents, naturally their polyp length will be significantly reduced. Also..overly clean water can be detrimental to goniopora sp. I am very certain my tank is not clean. As for goniopora becoming a ball...the only way I find it applies to goniopora sp. is when it is retracting its polyps..or when there is very very little water current or none at all. For other goniopora species they might look more like a ball because their polyps dun extend as much? I'm not sure about the phenomenon as to why gonioporas preferentially extend their upper polyps rather than the lower ones..Maybe they don't find it worthwhile as extending the lower polyps wun receive as much light as the polyps above? Anyway..pic of the goniopora from the right. Notice the polyps extend longer here due to more calm waters.

I'm amazed your brother is not making any noise... You might have to look for industrial pumps.....

Reminds me of 'The Godfather'.

Because my lobster just moved its feelers past them. That why the right side look more expanded...the bottom looks shrunken becoz of the activity of the sea cuke. Corals don't look the same 24/7. Furthermore the pic taken quite late..the largest bloom occurs around 2pm for me...took the pic an hour late.. Somehow my goniopora can sense when the light is going to off...30 mins to 1 hour before the lights off it will start to reduce its size already...

I think reefer guy used to keep planted tanks. I used to play with plants too. For plants if they stretch too much means ur lighting is insufficient. However, totally different thing for corals. Corals are not plants. They are animals. They have to expand as big as possible to increase surface area to capture light for the symbiotic zooxanthellae. Some also expand to increase their chances of capturing more prey.
-
They are supposed to be that long. What you mean stretching for light? I've got 162 watts of T5s over them already. Somemore they are only about 1.5 ft away from the light source.
-
Okie...think about 6 more months more it should still be alive..unless something unexpectantly happens...like my tank cracking at the seams...earthquake...cuke crash... If it dies during the maturation of my DSB which I will be setting up soon..then I think I would know what is crucial in the keeping of flowerpots already... you must have.......NITRATES!
-
Hmmm..been in my tank for about 3-4 months? Can't remember... No signs of receding tissue as yet...seems to be some new growth over the formerly dead skeleton near the bottom.. Good news?
-
Some of the coral skeleton has been exposed...Probably due to mishandling...if got algae growth on the skeleton...very hard for the tissue to regenerate I think.
