what is the name of this anemone?
FuEl replied to sam_always's topic in New to the Marine Aquaria Hobby
Dunno what's the name for this one. But definitely one of the hardest anemones to keep. Easier anemones that one should consider would be bubble-tip anemones & carpet anemones (might eat ur fish). If these pose a problem, no need to try other anemones already. -
I don't think the fishes know it is their own poo in the first place. Since their eyes are located so far away from their vent. They might just think that their poo is another potential food particle.

Information on firefish provided by KaEN I tried keeping 3 firefish together. Did'nt work for me. In the end ended up with 1. However red firegoby with purple firegoby no problems at all as they are different species.
-
Alot of animals do that for a 2nd round of digestion to occur. Not sure if that is what the YT wants or that it is just plain dumb. Just look at rabbits. They can easily starve to death if you prevent them from eating their own poo.

You might want to consider 2 x 150W or 1 x 250W MH...if they are D.I.Yed, they might actually cost cheaper and pack more punch compared to 3X39W T5 tubes (not forgetting the costs of the ballasts). Most people would use MH for tanks that are 2 or more feet in height. 2 x 150W are not as hot as you imagine..esp if you elevate them some distance from the water surface, and provide a small clip on fan to blow the heat from the MH away from the tank. You can consider that. I know of people running 150W MHs on their tanks without a chiller.

Trace elements will not be replenished by topping up with freshwater. The best and cheapest way to replace them are to do frequent water changes.

Eh? My sand is a mix of grade 1 and 2 and my sea cuke consumes and poos them conveniently. Maybe your sea cuke has a different personality.

This is the first time I have been compared to a bamboo stick. Should I be flattered?

There might be a problem with the firefish if they are not a mated pair. 1 might end up more dominant and stress the other to death.

Same genus, different species.

What is 'take-ko'? Anyway...i grew fat over the new year. Everyday munching every single hour of the day.
-
Read up on the fish online....most literature will state its average lifespan is 1 year.

Too bad the big one can't fit into my sump. So maybe will get one more small one when I have the $$. Time to go fasting again.

AT was just being frank. I'm sure the senior reefers here...even AT himself.. might have killed something back in time when technology was not that advanced or due to the lack of knowledge. Even I am guilty of that. But that's not the point. Years back (around the 1980s to 1990s), information technology was virtually undeveloped. Reef-keeping husbandry was not efficiently consolidated and shared. LFS give stupid advise (some still the case today)..This led to many unneccessary deaths of marine organisms in the aquarium trade. But now, there is the internet. There is a forum. There are better literature available for reference. There are better LFS. One has the opportunity to learn It's not that difficult to keep marine anymore, provided that one is open to learning. Not everyone knows everything, nor can learn everything. Knowledge is boundless. The wise learns from others before trying. Lets all not flame james72...I'm sure he is here to learn..if not he would not have joined the forum at all. Everyone has experienced compulsive buying disorder at one time or another. Sometimes I still try to fight it within me! So....let's all chill. I'm sure james72 know we have the intention to help..not just to throw malicious responses.

any special reasons for cleaner shrimp to die?
FuEl replied to spicyball's topic in General Reefkeeping_
Sounds just like the symptoms of specific gravity shock. I was there too at a point in time with my 2 feet tank long ago...was wondering why every invert died when introduced, including macroalgae. Finally found out why. Tested my tank water with a new floating hydrometer and found my s.g to be close to 1.026. That of the farm was about 1.020 A specific gravity change of 0.006 can be very very stressful for inverts. Pls acclimatize new additions slowly, esp if they are inverts. Fish are more able to cope. -
15 fishes need feeding. Some food needs to sink for the scooters to get them. The hermits too, the crabs too and my favourite jawfish too. Not to mention just now..just fed my black suncoral one whole cube of mysis.
-
The amount i of food i put into my tank is scary...1 cube of mysis, 1 cube of brine shrimp, 1 pinch of cyclopeeze and 2 capfuls of DT a day. Not forgetting the newly hatched brine shrimps.

Ok guys..can't seem to find those small plastic tupperwares anywhere...so the amount i will be packing for $1 in a transparent plastic bag will be equivalent to 18ml (i have a measuring cup). Updated list for tomorrow's collection at 3pm at bedok mrt. 1) jc85 - $2 2) Ridemtb - 2 X $2 ($2 for kee) 3) Blackhen - $5 4) [JS] - $5
-
It's pretty close to $30 for a fish...be prepared for the price of such a small fish. But a worthy addition if you have no things that could prey on them in your tank. Pls do note that the average lifespan of this goby is rather short compared to other gobies.

Maybe usage of common names led to confusion? But I surely know that is no feather star.

Which part of sg do you stay at? I'm using tap water and most reefers here do not experience any problems...except for the diatom blooms. But don't think got any problem with nitrites. It's either you're overfeeding alot, or you have a faulty test kit. Check for nitrites in newly mixed seawater that uses distilled water. If it still registers a reading then your test kit must be faulty already.

Hmmm..not sure..will check tomorrow when the lights come on again.

Check with the sponsors...eAquanature and Glare

Think the price is slightly below $200. Drop by paradiz reef to have a look. Specifications are available on the box.

I dont think feeding tetras in the long run will be good for the lionfish. Freshwater fishes lack certain nutrition that marine fishes need. Try visiting the market place n buy marine species that are of suitable sizes instead. Try lancefish.
