Dunno...im using both. Canister just to hold my chemical resins and to act as another current maker.

It will not work. The purpose of a deep sand bed is to create an anoxic zone below. With water flowing thru the canister, the sand bed will always be permeated by water. No anoxic zone will develop.

Another common name for that goby is black-ray shrimp goby. Scientific name is Stonogobiops nematodes. There is another goby that looks exactly like the above, only difference is that the dorsal fin is short n stout. Much rarer..Stonogobiops xanthorhinica...Have not seen it in SG before.
